What do people think of Franz for a boy?

Please NO! It is such an old fashioned, but not yet cool, middle aged name! Worse than Otto imo....

EverybodyKnows · 13/01/2012 12:25

I love Franz . It's a great name.

othersideofchannel · 13/01/2012 12:52

Sorry, I dislike Franz. I normally like unpopular, classic names but Franz just reminds me of old German men (incl my uncle).

How about Ferdinand or Konstantin if you're after a Germanic name?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 13/01/2012 12:54

If you are Swedish as your username suggests, it may be different in Sweden.
I think it's not very nice at all to my delicate Brit ears.

Janoschi · 13/01/2012 16:44

I know a lovely Franz. And then there's that chap out of the Little Woman series of books too... :-) I also have a Dutch friend who spells it Frans and pronounces it 'France'.

EverybodyKnows · 13/01/2012 16:52

Janoschi- Am french-canadian and Franz sounds nice to me!

I'm a fan of Franz Kafka - maybe I am biased anyway

Ecgwynn · 13/01/2012 17:57

It reminds me of poor old Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Who got shot.

SwedishMumInLondon · 13/01/2012 19:03

Thanks all. I'm not really after a Germanic name but just liked the look and sound of it. But appreciate all your comments - really need to come up with a name. Baby is already 3 days old and we can't seem to agree on anything....Sad

LynetteScavo · 13/01/2012 19:04

I think it's cool.

lisaro · 13/01/2012 19:10

Sorry - I have to be honest, I thought it was a 'joke thread' and sniggered. Just no.

diddl · 13/01/2012 19:18

I think it´s fantastic tbh.

Wouldn´t bat an eyelid at it iyswim.

JestersHat · 13/01/2012 19:52

Yes why not? Franz Liszt was first thought...

Or how about Francis or Frederick?

EverybodyKnows · 13/01/2012 19:52

The meaning of Franz is either From France or Free- I quite like the Free aspect of it. As in Free Spirit.
