Lucy or Louisa?

OK, so my baby was born a girl and I had not got a girl's name sorted...totally convinced a little boy was on his way as I was. Then, just as I was getting to know her and to decide on a name she was rushed into hospital and I almost lost her. Very scary, but I was bizarrely determined she would be named at home on Christmas day and not in such a scary place/circumstance. Now after weeks in hospital, her pet name has become Lulu - because every time I tried out Lucy as a name, Lulu came out instead. So does that mean I just don't like Lucy enough to use it? She does not seem like a Lucy but Louisa seems so thirtysomething...?
Other names that made our top five were Harriet and Ruby but Lulu is such a dear name to me now, as it got us through some dark days.
I know this is a bizarre reason to reach out to the forum, but I cannot pick a long name for my little Lulu to save myself. Help!

Louisa is less common and, if you think it sounds too "thirtysomething", she won't be a baby forever!

CaptainMartinCrieff · 13/01/2012 08:37

Lucy is very popular at the moment... I know of 4 all been born in the past 4 months.

Louisa isn't too 30 something IMO and if you're going to call her Lulu anyway it gives her a more grown up name to use later.
I'd go with Louisa.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 13/01/2012 08:58

I would choose Louisa over Lucy any day of the week.

JestersHat · 13/01/2012 11:24

They're both lovely :)

ThoseClementineShoes · 13/01/2012 11:39

Both are lovely.
Louisa is more unusual.

Luisa? Lucinda? Lucille? Luisetta?

Think I love your originals more though.

ShesAStar · 13/01/2012 11:43

I love the name Louisa because it was my Nan's name, she was called Louisa-Rose which I think is so pretty. Also she was born in 1912 so not 30 something at all.

BlueChampagne · 13/01/2012 12:24

Louisa and Lucy are both lovely, and I'm sure Lulu could be a NN for both.

blackcatsdancing · 13/01/2012 12:28

Louisa is a beautiful name. My Spanish Godmother's name too and she is such a lovely person.

blackcatsdancing · 13/01/2012 12:29

oh, also a little girl where i work is called Louisa and it really suits her- definitely not 30 something.

zumm · 13/01/2012 13:56

Louisa is not 30 something - v elegant. Lulu = pearl in Arabic btw.

CEDR · 13/01/2012 14:42

LouMacca · 13/01/2012 15:03

Louisa is gorgeous. Louisa nn Lulu would be perfect. I also know a Tallulah and a Luella who are nicknamed Lulu. But Louisa is my favourite, it was on our shortlist for DD1.

cakeslover · 13/01/2012 15:33

oh tough one. both names are lovely. congratulations!

Polkadotfanatic · 13/01/2012 15:39

Both names are lovely. What about Luella - that lends quite well to Lulu? Congratulations :)

roonilwazlib · 13/01/2012 15:42

I prefer Louisa but what about Lucia?

LydiaWickham · 13/01/2012 15:57

I prefer Louisa, you aren't just naming the little girl, you are also naming the 30-something woman who's CV has just landed on the desk of a HR manager...

Louisa for 'grown up', Lulu for family.

mysteryfairy · 14/01/2012 13:23

We know a Lulu who is actually Lucy Louisa which is quite nice. I also do think Tallulah is a fab suggestion. When some friends chose it I was surprised to find that it is actually a Celtic saints name and it has lovely meanings (princess I think).

Congratulations on the arrival of your little girl and glad to hear she is now doing well.

pilates · 14/01/2012 13:36

Louisa is lovely and my favourite out of the two.

Sorry dislike Lulu even as a nn.

LadyMaryCrawley · 14/01/2012 14:30

Louisa is my middle name :)

How about Lois? (if you can get over the Family Guy thing)

mummy2maisie · 14/01/2012 14:37

I like the name Lucy, but love the name Louisa.

Ihatepeas · 14/01/2012 15:32

Love Louisa. Beautiful. Tullulah is also great. Love the nn lulu! Xx

sashh · 15/01/2012 07:14
