Name dilemma!

The dilemma is DH & I are finding it really difficult to come up with girls names we like & there seems to be a down side to any that we do like.
The top contender is Annabelle (with this spelling) but the problem with this name is that my SIL had a daughter last year & called her Isabel (with this spelling, occasionally called Izzy) & I'm worried that the names are too similar. I wouldn't be worried if the belle/bel ending was common but there are so few names that end belle/bel. Also in DH's family it's only him & his sister & our baby will be the 4th & possibly last grandchild, if there were loads of LO's then I don't think it would be as noticable that the names are alike.
What do you all think?

Great name Panda! Grin

Also love the name Annabelle and don't think it's too similar to Isabel, as the start of them are so different.

What other names do you like and what are the downsides?

whostolemyname · 10/01/2012 22:10

I think its fine, not the same at all.

smithster · 10/01/2012 22:13

not too similar, as long as you don't start calling them both 'Bel' or 'Belle' no problem.

mistressploppy · 10/01/2012 22:16

Could you ask her? I can't see that she'd mind, they are very different names

smithster · 10/01/2012 22:17

ps - my uncle gave his son exactly the same name as his sister had given her son four months before. Didn't help my uncle also had the same name as my aunt's husband. confusing!

hohohoshedittant · 10/01/2012 22:41

They're similar sounding, but not so much that you couldn't have two in the same family.

Italiangreyhound · 10/01/2012 23:04

I think it is rather cute that the cousins would have very vaguely similar names, they really aren't that similar, especially if your niece is abbreviated to Izzy. Then I am sure your daughter could be Belle if you wanted to abbriviate to.

grubbalo · 10/01/2012 23:07

Totally agree with ploppy - can't you just ask her? It all depends what she's like. One of my SILs couldn't care less in this scenario. One would be very pissed off!

yellowflowers · 10/01/2012 23:11

Really different I think especially spelled in that way

JestersHat · 10/01/2012 23:13

Annabelle with Annie for short wouldn't be too similar.

squeak2392 · 11/01/2012 12:28

I think you could just about get away with this for twins, so in this case it should be fine.

rebecklet · 11/01/2012 12:39

Annabelle is my absolute favourite girls name and I think they are definitely different enough :)

Mrsg33k · 11/01/2012 12:46

Defently different enough, its your child, who cares what other people call theirs? :) My friends son is called logan, and thats one of the boys names we had picked out, i wouldnt think twice about still calling my son logan though!
Lovely name by the way :)

PandaBear30 · 11/01/2012 19:44

Thanks for all the replies. I was hoping everyone would say they're different enough. If it were the other way round & we'd had our baby before theirs, I don't think I'd have a problem with it.

Really don't see a problem with this.

I know someone with 2 grandchildren called called Charlie - one is a boy the other is a girl. They aren't brother and sister I must add!

I also someone with grandchildren called Miley and Riley - They are the only grandchildren she has - so it's not like they're lots of LOs in the family either.

Also a colleague has daughters called Zoe and Chloe! If siblings can have names which are much more alike than the ones you describe, than it shouldn't be a problem for cousins to have similar names! Hope this reasures you...go for it!

nikster · 13/01/2012 22:37

You could ask your SIL if it worries you but I wouldn't think it would be a problem. While they are both end with the same sound they have a different feel and different nickname possibilities. I have cousins called Julie and Julian and no issues there.
