Girl's names - can't decide!

Hi - I have so many names I like I just can't decide...

Top running I think are:
Pippa
Zoe - but a friend has just used it although only see them a couple of times a year
Anna - although my best friend at school was called that and still in touch. Weird or OK?
Edith
Natasha but hate Tash.
Martha

I already have a Max and surname has an 'ee' sound at the end that I think rules out most 'ie' names like Milly, Emily etc. But I also really like Maggie that i think would be OK with our surname.

What do you all think?

Anna is gorgeous and goes nicely with Max. I also love Maggie, but Maggie and Max sounds a little bit like a boutique children's clothing company Grin

I'm not a fan of Edith anyway, but I'm not sure it would work with an 'ee' surname.

Pippa, Edith and Martha are lovely.

Personally I would steer clear of Zoe and Anna because of the connections with friends etc, but that could be just me. :o And realistically I think people are going to automatically shorten Natasha to Tash, so if you don't like that then it's probably best to avoid that one.

I think my favourite would have to be Pippa though :)

Theas18 · 09/01/2012 09:01

None of the natashas I know are "Tash" thay are Nat ./Natty

bradbourne · 09/01/2012 09:06

If you name her "Pippa", people are going to think you named her after Pippa Middleton.
I like Anna and Martha best out of your list.

flopsy1974 · 09/01/2012 09:14

Anna and Martha are both gorgeous. Smile

seeker · 09/01/2012 09:21

Martha is lovely!

Margaret- then she can be maggie- but also loads of other naims too- including Daisy!

jaffacakehips · 09/01/2012 09:42

Anna, (Philippa) Pippa, Martha and Maggie. Are all lovely names.

People will not think you have name her Pippa after Pippa Middleton that's just stupid imo. Unless of course you are great long time friends with the family and ask her to be godmother...Wink No one thinks of Prince William or Harry Potter when children are called William or Harry.

smother · 09/01/2012 10:24

Really lovely names - except Natasha, really dislike this name.
My favs are Anna, Martha and Maggie.

JestersHat · 09/01/2012 12:29

Pippa - nice as nickname for Philippa
Zoe - OK but prefer Zara
Anna - quite nice and I'm sure your friend would be flattered
Edith - OK
Natasha - like
Martha - frumpy

ViviPru · 09/01/2012 12:31

Natalia? Natty/Tallie/Lia/Talia all lovely NNs

smother · 09/01/2012 12:36

another suggestion - Naomi

froggers1 · 09/01/2012 12:49

Thanks everyone! Lots to think about..Naomi was on longer list too so may reconsider it! Think have ruled out Natasha! So thats helped!

Max and Anna

Anna and Max

Perfect!

HettyKett · 09/01/2012 12:56

I don't like Naomi or Natasha, how about Natalie or a variation?

Natalie / Nathalie
Natalia / Nathalia (nn Lia)

Polkadotfanatic · 09/01/2012 13:31

What Jestershat said :)

good luck!

Ahhhtetley · 09/01/2012 13:33

I love Pippa

squeak2392 · 10/01/2012 18:25

Edith, Pippa, Martha, Anna, in that order. But I've recently been led to believe that Edith is extremely popular, if that matters to you. Not sure how true that is.

Zoe is very dated to me.
I really like Natasha, but I think the risk of getting Tash or Tasha is too great (I hate it too).

oikopolis · 10/01/2012 18:33

Pippa - No. Use Philippa, but don't name her with the nickname of a tabloid regular.
Zoe - OK. Bit 90s.
Anna - Lovely. I don't think it's weird that your friend is also called Anna.
Edith - not my style.
Natasha - it's a nickname for Natalia, so I wouldn't use it as a name. And you would not be able to escape Tash in any case!
Martha - Like this, prefer the German ("marta") pronunciation.

TheEndlessArete · 11/01/2012 19:31

I think we have the same sort of choice in names, two of our daughters are called those names and we considered all the others too (although not Edith)

Have you thought of the nn Sasha for Natasha ? bit softer.
I think it's ok to call her Pippa without the 'Philippa' bit.

Enjoy ! we've got 4DDs and love them !!

smithster · 11/01/2012 19:38

martha is my favourite, definitely.

froggers1 · 12/01/2012 08:00

EndlessArete - 4!! Goodness!! I think one of each will be enough!! I agree about the Pippa not Phillipa - its not a silly nickname I don't think...We have a Max who is just plain Max after all!

Mrtha and Naomi beat the others hands down imho (but I have a Naomi so am biased!).

Edith is horrible.
