Help...Florence Isla or Isla Florence

ESF1978 · 09/01/2012 06:50

Our gorgeous girl is 3 days old and we still can't decide which way round to use the names. Our hunch is Florence as first name as Isla seems to be getting a bit more popular around here and we want a classic name that will last her - also like the nns Flo, Lorrie, Floss etc.
But keen to hear others opinions as going round in circles....Thanks x

I prefer Florence Isla. Lively names, ESP Florence, such a gentle, calm name. Congrats too btw!

SleepyFergus · 09/01/2012 06:57

ESP is supposed to be esp. Dunno why why phone insists in capitalising it! Grr!

Florence Isla. Our DD is due in just under 8 weeks and she will be Florence. It is a fantastic name.
Congratulations on your new arrival x

Florence Isla. The other way round sounds like Isle of Florence. I wanted to call my DD Isla but we have a Scottish place name for a surname so it would have sounded like a map reference Wink.

Florence Isla without a doubt. Lovely name Smile

Thanks for the comments, I shouldve mentioned our last name starts with 'F' so do you think that's still ok? Love it so maybe just overthinking it?

Florence Isla.

I used Isla as a middle name for the same reasons as you. I think it's really pretty but wanted to give DD a "sensible" name, that would last her.

Marinn · 09/01/2012 12:17

I prefer Isla Florence if you have a surname beginning with F. Florence is a long, flowery name and could sound a bit OTT with a F surname.

JestersHat · 09/01/2012 12:31

Florence Isla

BlueIvy · 09/01/2012 12:38

I prefer the name Isla, but Isla Florence sounds like Isle of Florence

SoupDragon · 09/01/2012 12:39

I agree with BlueIvy. I far prefer the name Isla but it doesn't go with Florence as a middle name.

Or 'I love Laurence', which was my first thought.

They are both lovely names, but I think they work better as Florence Isla.

squeak2392 · 10/01/2012 18:22

If given the choice, I will always say use Florence as a mn rather than a first.

Plus, I honestly think Isla Florence sounds better.

CecilyP · 10/01/2012 18:31

Isla Florence for me too. But I love the name Isla anyway.

SubordinateClaws · 11/01/2012 04:13

They're both very much "of the moment", I think.

rebecklet · 11/01/2012 13:47

Love Love Love the name Isla, so Isla Florence would be my first choice - especially with an F surname.

bigbluebump · 11/01/2012 14:38

Isla for me, especially if your surname starts with F.

I wouldn't agonise too much over middle name as it rarely gets mentioned or used.

LadyWellian · 11/01/2012 17:27

But if it's Isla F[surname], doesn't that leave exactly the same Isle of/I love issue?

startail · 11/01/2012 17:33

Isla (Florence), I'm too old ,I just think of the Magic roundabout.
