DH said this morning that he liked this name. I can't make up my mind whether I like it or not!!
What does the mumsnet jury think ? And what is it likely to get shortened to ?

Winston yes, Whinston no.

The second spelling makes me think Whine-ston which is not good.

CumpyGrunt · 08/01/2012 10:18

I'm not keen, it makes me think of Winston Churchill.

Fo0ffyShmo0ffer · 08/01/2012 10:18

I've seen Winston but never Whinston.

If you as parents don't perpetuate a nickname you can hold off on it being shortened for a good while. The thing is it probably WILL get shortened to Win/Winnie eventually.
I'm not keen but not my child.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 08/01/2012 10:19

Winston fine, Whinston not great.

Sannebanana · 08/01/2012 10:24

I don't mind it spelled Winston, but Whinston isn't great, sorry.

brandysoakedbitch · 08/01/2012 10:26

what is with the extra H - looks a bit try hard tbh

EdithWeston · 08/01/2012 10:31

I've never seen it spelt with the "h" - is it a family name/surname?

I think you'd find yourself having to correct spelling and explain derivation a lot (assuming you're in UK, where the no-h selling is overwhelmingly predominant). Would that bother you?

flopsy1974 · 08/01/2012 10:33

Sorry folks mis-spelling. It would be Winston Blush

Sounds good to me.

Don't tell people though, your son will become the name and people will think of him not some long dead pm!

If you like it go for it!

Sannebanana · 08/01/2012 10:37

Well if it's without the h, then I really like it!

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 08/01/2012 15:57

No go with Whinston

Or really go for it and have Whinsthonh

JestersHat · 08/01/2012 18:20

Churchill... oooohhh nononononononono!

UsedToBikeAndRunAndSki · 08/01/2012 18:23

Fine, was also John Lennon's middle name.

rachel234 · 08/01/2012 19:27

I love Winston. Great name.

rachel234 · 08/01/2012 19:28

It is short enough, only two syllables, that it doesn't need shortening. I don't think Winston Churchill ever shortened his name.

tammytoby · 08/01/2012 21:32

Winston, spelt properly, is lovely. Classic, strong and underused.

How about Whynnstohnne?
