What do you think of Lana for a girls name? I really like it (and it's a cross between my two sister's names Laura & Anna) but trying to persuade other half who's not so keen. If not....any other suggestions I may like?? I love the name Isla too but see it's in the top 20 most popular list now and want something more unique but not weird!!

It's our DD's name, I think it's lovely and we always get positive comments about it :)

Kayano · 07/01/2012 17:06

Lana is nice but I think of Lana Lang who annoys me no end lol

BigusBumus · 07/01/2012 17:11

I like it. Unusual without being wacky.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 07/01/2012 17:12

It lovely, I also like Lara, which is similar. Smile

Sluttybuttons · 07/01/2012 17:12

Dds nickname is lana/lany but her full name is Alana. Would he go for that?

carben · 07/01/2012 17:35

I think I slightly prefer Lara but Lana is pretty too. Also like Marnie and Maya.

EatingLemonCheesecake · 07/01/2012 17:43

it is nice, but prefer Alana

jaffacakehips · 07/01/2012 18:41

It's okay..Lara, rolls off the tongue better imo.

You could always used Laura and Anna as middle names and pick a whole new name. I think it's a sweet gesture.

I love the name Skye for my dd however our surname is jack. Any suggestions on how we can use it without sounding like a joke?

Means wool in spanish...

JestersHat · 07/01/2012 19:28

I like it, although prefer Alana or Larissa/Lara.

LaTristesse · 07/01/2012 20:13

I think it's pretty, however I have seen some folks on here reject it because it spells anal backwards! Not sure if that bothers you...

Eeeleye · 07/01/2012 21:22

Thanks everyone! Yeh a friend of mine did point out the backwards spelling which kind of puts me off a little (not that I ever speak backwards but I do have a very good friend who is fluent in backwards English with her brother - ha ha!)
Anyway, I am now liking Lyla quite a lot, any thoughts on Lyla?!

I love Lana - but then I have a lovely friend of that name :). She is short for Svetlana.

Marinn · 07/01/2012 23:40

I would never use it because of the backward spelling, imagine at secondary school....

I think Lyla is a bit flimsy as a first name.

Lara is nice and Lila also.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 08/01/2012 08:33

Lovely. Prefer it to Lara, Lila, Alana, etc.

RainySmallHands · 08/01/2012 08:36

I prefer Alanna. You could have nn Lana? What about Lyra?
