Help I'm stuck!

Me again!

I'm hoping this baby is a boy because I'm stuck on girls' names and only have 5 weeks left to go...

Middle name will be Mary or Elizabeth after my aunt who died recently. I already have a Betty (Beatrice Rosalinde on her birth cert) and Rufus.

We like long names with a nn:
Tabitha (Tabby - not sure about Tabby)
Angelica (Annie)
Hermione (Minnie)

I like, but dh doesn't:
Juno
Hero

I also like Persephone and Perdita, but am put off by Persephone's myth and the fact that Perdita means 'lost'. Though Perdita is probably my favourite name (Perdie for short). Do you think the story/meaning matters?

Everyone has different opinions regarding meanings, depending on various factors. I do think of perditus (latin) perdu (french) when I hear Perdita but perhaps not everyone else will. Depends how YOU feel about it.

I like Hermione best from your list.

Polkadotfanatic · 06/01/2012 11:01

Penelope (Penny / Nell / Polly)
Amelia (Millie)
Evelyn (Eve)
Dorothea (Dotty / Thea)
Athena (Thea)

Perdita always makes me think of a cat?
Persephone not keen.
Angelica a bit too sickly sweet for my tastes.

But as poppydaisy says it depends on YOU, all MN's can do is give you their opinion. Lots of luck!! x

I like Angelica best of your ideas.

How about

Seraphina
Alexandria
Catherine
Elizabeth
Anastasia
Christina
Melissa
Francesca
Julianna
Cassandra

LOVE Angelica. We know one's she's 11 now and we call her Jell or Jelly but that started as a pet name from when she was wee.

Hero and Juno are ace but imo don't go with Betty and Rufus (adore).

What about Judith nn Judy or Jude

Good luck..out of interest (noisy Jaffa) what are your boys names??

phlossie · 06/01/2012 16:10

Caspar Benjamin Clarke. Totally sold on that one!

Yep - I think Perdita sounds too much like perdu in French.

I like Dorothy, Polkadot with Dotty as a nickname... and I want MN opinions just because someone might come up with something we hadn't though of!

Love Hermione (but not Minnie). Don't like any of the others.

DorisIsMerryOnChristmasSprits · 06/01/2012 18:41

I know a Hermione with mimi as a nn which I think is lovely (but then I have a great Aunt called Mimi who is fantastic so maybe it's the association!

Papyrus · 06/01/2012 18:54

I have an Elizabeth (Eliza) and an Annie - but she's Anna on her birth cert, my DD3 is Clara - we've only had positive reactions, but it might be a bit short for you.

I like Hermione best from your list. Also love Hero and Juno, but not sure I'm brave enough!

phlossie · 06/01/2012 19:49

Love Clara, but have a good friend with a dd called Clara and... our surname's Clarke!

Mimi is a great nn for Hermione.

Questions is, choose our favourite long name or favourite nick name?
