We are thinking about naming our Baby Julius and have no idea which assocations english people might have with this name. What do you think?

Many thanks :)

I imagine Julius to be an interior designer who addresses everyone as "dahrling", even the plumber.

But in reality he would probably be a heavy set bloke who would punch your lights our soon as look at you because he was fed up of people presuming the same as me.

Ds2 has a very good friend at nursery called Julius. His mum is Russian and his dad is polish (I think). I'd never heard the name before so only associate it with him IYKWIM

franke · 04/01/2012 21:56

Lynette Grin

I can only think of Caesar.

I like it.

fanjodisfunction · 04/01/2012 21:58

I like it, good strong name.

cece · 04/01/2012 21:59

Ceaser.

I prefer Julian.

meditrina · 04/01/2012 22:04

I rather like it.

But given the obvious Caesar associations, it would be a big name to live up to.

Cardano · 04/01/2012 22:15

@cece

With an english pronounciation I would prefer Julian as well. But in my opinion in german it sounds to soft for a boy.

@franke

Who is Lynette?

missmiss · 04/01/2012 22:17

I like it. I am a classicist though!

Cardano · 04/01/2012 22:18

@meditrina

"obvious Caesar associations"

So that means, it is a very uncommon name here?

I am Lynette.

I wouldn't mess with a Julius.

It's way better than Julian.

lollystix · 04/01/2012 22:29

Please not Julian

FunnysInTheGarden · 04/01/2012 22:30

I really like it. We have a Fabian which is in the same vein I think. Do it and be brave!

hester · 04/01/2012 22:32

I like it, but possibly because it has positive associations in my family.
Prefer it to Julian, definitely.

Cardano · 04/01/2012 22:49

@funnysInTheGarden
My kids want me to name this baby Fabian. ;) I like that name, too. Julius is not too brave in Germany (position 58 in the toplist 2011). But obviously it is in the UK. ;)

I think we gonna take that name. Thanks everyone! :)

Caesar

oikopolis · 04/01/2012 22:53

Caesar.

Also, a frothy orange drink popular in North America.

I like it!

Cardano · 04/01/2012 22:54

@oikopolis

as long as it is no popular toilet seat or something like that... ;)

crazynanna · 04/01/2012 23:03

My friend's boy is called Julius Smile

NoHunIntended · 04/01/2012 23:19

My cousin's DS is Julius, I like it a lot.

After him, it makes me think of www.paulfrank.com/.
