Fijian names shortlist - thoughts please?

We have decided that DD will have my 'surname' (I'm Fijian while DH has a common english surname)

Middle name will be Priscilla Georgia

We would both like a Fijian first name as well. But DH especially is conscience about us being the UK and so name being 'useable'

So:

Adi
Litia
Taina
Karalaini (Kara we thought as a nn)
Kasanita (Kas or Anita we thought as Useable nn)

Thoughts?

That's a lot of names. And not too keen on any of them.

I like the Fijian names, and think it depends on your surname as to which you choose.

The last two names you have put sound (to me, a UK person not familiar with Fijian names) 'foreign' whereas the first three seem a bit more like they could be 'England chavvy made up' for want of a better description - I'd go with one of the last two for that reason!

If you're dead set on using Priscilla Georgia as middle names, then I would go for Taina as a first name. It's shorter, but still sounds like a "real name" to western ears, if that makes sense.

Taina Priscilla Georgia Lastname

I warn you, I have a slightly-longer-than-usual middle name (just the one) and I frequently run out of space on official forms that ask for "given name/s". Using two middle names is almost guaranteeing irritation! As long as you're aware of that, then go for it.

I actually think karalaini would be the most useable here. The short ones look really likely to be mispronounced. It's pretty too and Kara is a great nn!

I like Karalaini

Lovely idea to use a name from your culture. I think all are usable in an English speaking country. At our school there are lots of very foreign sounding names and people earn them very quickly.

AnotherMincepie · 03/01/2012 08:29

I like Karalaini best of those.

dezfree · 03/01/2012 10:42

Another Karalaini - like Kara as a all cultural nn

I think Kasanita or Adi might be the easiest for English people to pronounce first time? (If they're pronounced how I imagine they are :) )

I love Kasanita actually :)

I think Karalaini or Kasanita are the best and Kassi and Kara are both pretty.
