Hello, I'm considering Ursula should my baby be a girl. I know it's a marmite name but I am in the love camp so please don't tell me you hate it! I was just winferring if anyone knows any little girls called Ursula? Thanks in advance.

One of my friends is seeing a girl called ursula (ursh is what he calls her). She's about 26 :)

Lovely name x

Love it, think it's due a comeback, have never met anybody called it, but unfortunately it's not on our shortlist coz DP knew an Ursula years ago who tried to persuade him to have a, um, threesome. My poor shy DP panicked and ran a mile. So not the greatest connotations for us!

I think Ursula is a beautiful name. I had a friend at school with a sister called Ursula - which would put her in her late 30s, maybe 40 now. Most adult Ursulas on this thread seem to be that age: was there a famous Ursula at that time? Or do we all know the same one?!?

mathanxiety · 04/01/2012 22:04

I know a 12 year old Ursula and a 3 year old Ursulina. I knew one a bit older than me in school -- she would be in her late 40s so.

Ursula Andress was famous in the 60s and maybe she inspired some of the 40something Ursulas' names?

Only known of one, was at DD's school. She'd be 12 or 13 I think.

My mother is called Ursula. I used to hate it but actually I really like it now There's a great Ursula in the D.H. Lawrence novel The Rainbow.

Toomanyworriedsonhere · 04/01/2012 22:15

My mother too!
Also know a 10 yr old.

lottiegb · 04/01/2012 23:03

I know one who's about 40, it's great.

itfcbabe · 05/01/2012 00:24

I like it, don't know anyone with the name only Phoebe's twin sister in Friends.

persephoneplum · 05/01/2012 11:57

It's almost number one for this last baby if a girl. Both my husband and I love it and have for years but sometimes I get doubtful because people on other naming boards bang on and on about how ugly it is because of the sea witch.

I think it's beautiful and am surprised (and heartened) by the many favourable comments here! I don't know any at all except the cat (long gone) I named Ursula 15 years ago because I loved the name then.

I knew a girl called Ursula from a school we had to go on school trips from. Would you call her that as a baby, though? I also instantly thought 'Little Mermaid' - you'd have to make sure she never sees that!

balia · 05/01/2012 19:28

Love it - one of my friends called her little one Ursula and I just fell in love with it. And if she hates it as she grows up she can always be Sue!

HardCheese · 06/01/2012 14:00

I met a baby Ursula (born late 2010 for the first time last year, child of a very funky mother. I rather like it. Go for it, I say.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 06/01/2012 14:27

There's one in DD's new nursery class she's just started. She's 3 or 4.

Honestly, when I hear Ursula I automatically think of the little mermaid. Not a bad thing. I personally think Ursula is one the best Disney villans of all time.

MamaLazarou · 06/01/2012 14:30

No, but it is an excellent name, IMO.

Flickstar · 06/01/2012 21:26

Thanks for all the lovely feedback- we have decided to go for it!
