Myles or Miles

Although we have lots of girl names we all agree on, we can't decide on any boy names except Myles. Dh wants to spell it with an i but I prefer the y as i makes me think of miles or km. How would you spell it?

Our six year old dd's name ends with an ey and we are forever correcting people ( even grandparents and my brother). We not want that to happen with this one.

Miles. With a y looks pretentious to me, sorry!

crumpet · 24/12/2011 08:01

With a y looks as if it's trying a bit hard to be different. Miles is the more usual spelling (and however you spell it it will still sound like road miles when you say it so there's no getting away from it). I like the name. Milo is an alternative

SJisontheway · 24/12/2011 08:05

Myles. Definitely. It's a family name for us - ds's middle name and always with a y. It's not trying to be different - to me it's the correct spelling and with an i I think of the distance

Miles

Miles.

lovely name but Myles looks horrible.

etJeviensEntretesReindeers · 24/12/2011 08:13

I would go with Milo, like in the Phantom Tollbooth. I don't really like the name Miles, I can't figure out its origins so to me it sounds like a measurement.

Milo is nice though Smile

lottiegb · 24/12/2011 15:46

Miles. Myles looks like a surname.

oikopolis · 24/12/2011 16:50

Myles looks silly. Miles is the standard spelling. If you use a "y" he will constantly have his name misspelt and it will be a pain.

Firawla · 24/12/2011 16:56

Miles is much nicer looking but Miles and Myles both are nicer than Milo which just reminds me too much of the tweenies

tammytoby · 24/12/2011 17:05

Miles is too metric imo. Unless you're not in the UK and in a country that doesn't use miles. Myles is definately more name-like imo.

TidyDancer · 24/12/2011 17:10

Myles looks horrible, sorry. Miles is lovely though and is the 'correct' way of spelling it.

LaFilleSurLePont · 24/12/2011 17:28

Miles is nicer.

jaggythistle · 24/12/2011 17:54

Miles.

tallulah · 24/12/2011 18:06

Miles.

Whichever way you spell it I can guarantee everyone else will do the opposite Grin

Greenshirt · 24/12/2011 21:13

We have a Dexter Miles. Interestingly, I would have used Myles if the first name.

Ihatepeas · 24/12/2011 22:05

Prefer Myles.

Snowgirl1 · 24/12/2011 23:03

Miles, definitely.
