Okay, so I hadn't heard of this name before Strictly but I really like it, what do you think of it?

what's it short for?

Umnitsa · 17/12/2011 22:55

In Russian it is not a name on its own but a nickname for Pavel (= Paul). If it were used as a full name, with a non-Slavic last name, I might first assume it were used as a title as in Turkish pasha.

upatdawn · 17/12/2011 22:58

No Russian ancestory in the family - would Pasha be a bit silly then?

Isn't it the name of a clubnight?

yoyomummy · 17/12/2011 23:10

Don't mean it's not a proper name but it's always good to think of any possible associations.

Snowgirl1 · 18/12/2011 00:10

Pacha's a famous Ibizan club - when I saw the title of your thread I thought "someone's naming their child after a club??". Sorry.

MaMattoo · 18/12/2011 00:23

Pasha meant emperor...badshah skso means emperor and is derived from pasha. Lovely name!

upatdawn · 18/12/2011 16:45

Is the association too strong do you think?

OP posts:
purplehonesty · 18/12/2011 16:47

I thought of the club yeah. I think people also might say 'passion?' when your dc says their name

belgo · 18/12/2011 16:47

Pasha would be hard to get away with if you have no russian ancestry.

What about Sasha (Alexander I think)

Misha (Miguel I think)

belgo · 18/12/2011 16:48

I think you need to wait for the Strictly rosy glow to wear off before deciding.

upatdawn · 18/12/2011 16:50

I do like Sasha but I really do love Pasha. Oh well no more kids on the cards anyway so I won't be using it - anyone with Russian ancestry want to use it for me?

carocaro · 18/12/2011 16:58

nighclub in Ibiza it says to me

kdiddy · 18/12/2011 18:03

Definitely associations of Ibiza. It's a great club actually but would definitely put me in mind of someone who'd had one too many wild nights in there!

ChocolatEtVin · 18/12/2011 18:07

I absolutely love this name! It has just rocketed to the top of our shortlist (and DH is a quarter Russian!)

Lakota · 18/12/2011 18:08

I went to primary school with a Pasha, but his family were Indian or possibly Pakistani (was a long time ago), I always assumed the name was from that part of the world.

AwayinaKayzr · 19/12/2011 10:03

I love Pasha. DP has refused though Xmas Sad

Never heard of the club in Ibiza.

lovinme · 19/12/2011 14:09

I didn't think of the club but I did think of our local Indian take away Pasha

Clawdy · 19/12/2011 15:12

Pasha is the character in the film of "Dr.Zhivago" played by Tom Courtenay....

serin · 19/12/2011 18:21

Gorgeous!

Who cares if you have no Russian ancestry, invent some Grin
