I really like Clara - it's timeless and elegant BUT I think it's become a bit more popular of late. Whereas Colette would be a more underused choice.

I know of two Claras - one is 5 and the other is a baby. Other than that I'm sure my grandmother knew a Clara (so would've been in her 80's now).

I son't know any Colettes but I associate the name with 30 and 40 somethings. It's a very pretty name though.

Not sure of using Coco as a nn for either of these names as they are only two syllables anyway. Corinna (I love this) or Cordelia would work better with the nn Coco, but that's jmo.

Colette, definitely. Clara is getting a bit tired now.

Just go with Coco.

Love Clara

proudfoot · 10/12/2011 17:46

Clara is lovely, fresh and classic.

I am not keen on Colette - I went to school with one but it just makes me think of the actress Toni Colette and that awful film Muriel's Wedding! Not sure if just me but the "ette" endings sound a bit dated to me.

3rdOneComingUp · 10/12/2011 18:02

I like Colette with nn Coco but i was thinking french literaryesque but my mate says that the ette ending could possibly chavvy. SO now in doubt. TBH, the name book is back out.

Colette is very 70s sounding, don't like at all.

Clara is pretty but quite popular

mathanxiety · 10/12/2011 18:08

Colette definitely, and it is French so can't possibly be [that word]. A gorgeous name.

trixymalixy · 10/12/2011 18:11

Clara is lovely. I don't know any children called Clara.

If I ever have another it would be top of my list.

TidyDancer · 10/12/2011 18:18

Clara is pretty, Colette isn't.

How come Coco as a NN?

AvadventKalendar · 10/12/2011 18:19

They are both very lovely :)

Colette was her surname but her first names were Sidonie and Gabrielle which are both lovely. Gabrielle was also 'Coco' Chanel's real first name so... not sure what point I'm making, just thinking aloud.
