It seems this topic board has loads of MN's 'marmite' names. Loads of threads along the lines off, 'DC would of been' or 'Names you Love.'.

...so I was just wondering, which names don't you like and why?

The only name I really, really dislike is Chad. There are loads of others that I don't care for, but only in that I wouldn't use them for my own children. I don't actively dislike them. Most popular names fall into this category for me.

I am not fond of surname style first names, and abhor kre8tiv spellings. That's about as far as my judging goes.

Am exceedingly pleased that both my son's names are on this thread.Am amazed that so many people actually hate namesHmm

xxhunnyxx · 10/12/2011 18:31

'creative' spellings = chav. IMO
I think names should be spelt properly.

My friends little girl is a Lola and I really don't like it, I think it's defo a Marmite name, some people love it, I hate it. It used to send a shiver down me when ever she said it. But now that she's older I just associate it with her. Although sometimes I want to sing 'lola...she was a show girl'

I'm of the era where Harry was short for Harold..

Not keen on some more of the names from our school - Finella, Finlay, LuAnne (seriously), Marlow, Harrison, Tyler....

Stars22 · 10/12/2011 23:57

My nephew is Kayden (hes 5) I wasnt sure about it first had never heard of it thought it was kinda made up, but you learn to love it. I like it now, if he hadnt of been Kayden he would have been Diesel...lets just say im pleased he was Kayden.

Names that I cant stand are Tabitha (the worst girls name ever, sorry to anyone that has a tabitha), Tallulah, Nathan (the worse boys name ever), Nathaniel, Caleb, Milly, Tilly, Rupert, Albert, Kitty, Ursula, Helena, Maude, Jessica, and most of the names that were popular in the 80's when I was born like Tracey, Debra, Lisa, Claire, Emma etc.

"And the way women who have drug-free births feel they've really achieved something special"

I had a drug-free birth and feel exactly that way. It was phenomenal.

Definitely an epidural next time though Grin

Wrong thread, sorry!! Blush

SleeplessinBournville · 11/12/2011 07:39

Gran22 - sympathy for the Madison mix-up. Horrendous! And obviously Harry is short for Harold as well as Henry Hmm for some reason. Doh!

SleeplessinBournville · 11/12/2011 07:44

Difficult - we've got DS3 due any minute - today supposedly. Used up two boys' names already - and can't decide on a third! And there are thousands out there.

rachel234 · 11/12/2011 12:40

I too am surprised that so many of you feel so strongly about certain names as to HATE them Hmm.

I can see how you can strongly dislike, ok hate, a person, but a name?!

heroinahalfshell · 11/12/2011 13:47

Why can't you hate a name?? Some just sound horrid / harsh.

Actually I forgot my all time most hated name - MALCOLM!!!! Bleurgh!!!

Dragonwoman · 11/12/2011 14:15

I really like the name Jason. Blush I know everyone else sees it as a 70s and 80s 'chav' name but I still like it. Would have called DS2 Jason but DH wouldn't agree.

exoticfruits · 11/12/2011 15:27

I can hate a name. Elsie, Winifred, Ivy, Doris etc set me teeth on edge every time I hear them!

exoticfruits · 11/12/2011 15:27

my not me!

rachel234 · 11/12/2011 19:34

I wonder if the hatred towards a name stems from the associations of a person/people with that name?
