Just found out today that we are having a boy. The first one in our family for 36 years! We only ever produced girls. The cycle has finally been broken. In shock, but nice shock, and v excited. :)

Now for the serious business of names. We have narrowed it down to the four mentioned in title. Opinions, thoughts? :)

Like all except Diarmid - just makes me think of that TV gardener and of TV-presenter Dermot.

Kier is great but I would see it as a reference to Kier Hardie, so statement of strong left-wing sympathies. It would be interesting to know if it was used much before he popularised it, so of other references and heritage. In speech, it has echoes of Kir - lovely drink.

I love Jude for a boy (and have since before Jude Law became well known, darn him). 'Jude the Obscure' is hardly cheerful but a good book.

I love Christy and Kier (after Kier Hardie?)

Jude for me is that twat Jude Law. Also, love the book Jude the obscure, but what an unfortunate connotation!

Christy Brown is a fantastic role model too. Talk about overcoming adversity!!

Yes, it's in reference to Keir Hardy. I like Karl also, however, my friend has a son called Carl, and my sister's partner's name is Karl. Just feel as if there are too many people around me with that name. :)

I love the name Keir. I was going to call this my son who is 3,it always reminds me when I see Keir Simmons on the news. I love the gaelic names -in the end we called him Ciaran, but nobody spells it right. Christy is lovely too.
