ds has got one first name and dh's surname, however I really regret now that he hasn't got mine too (as it is traditional in my culture), can we change the registered name? he's already got a passport, but it lasts only 5 years. We did decide this together, but I was in a real state in those first weeks and should not have been allowed to make any decisions!

I'm sure we were told when we registered all 3 of our DCs that once you chose the surname it couldn't be changed or amended.

Up until your ds is 1 you can add middle names to your baby's name.
Ie, if baby's name is Alf Green. Then his name could be changed to Alf Brown Green. Green always being the surname but Brown being a middle name. Here this might help

I changed my sons surname when he was 4 by deed poll, really easy Smile

Thanks all, thegirlwithnoname I don't think that would work as they sound good only the other way round Sad.
CODwidow I'll look into that, I guess it costs though.

we did it for ours and even by deed poll its not expensive :) or you can just register him for school/drs etc and include your name and have that as his 'known' or 'used' name, we did that also for our boys :)

I changed dd's original surname to a second middle name, and added a new surname, all by deed poll. She already had a passport but changing that was really straightforward once the deed poll came through. I made this change when she was 16 months by the way.
