Hi, I'm due to give birth to a boy on NY eve. Both DH and I really like the name Gabriel. Particularly the nn Gabe. Just wanted a few opinions really - is it too Christmassy? Or naff? Thanks :)

I love the name, one of the loveliest little boys I know is called Gabriel, Gabe for short.

PercyFilth · 30/11/2011 03:18

Nothing particularly 'Christmassy' about it, as far as I'm aware, and certainly not naff.

GinwillFixit · 30/11/2011 03:20

I know a gorgeous little boy who is 4, his name is Gabriel. Love it.

:) thanks I love it too!

One of the reasons we liked it was that it wasn't as popular as Noah etc.

Two Gabes due on the same day though :).

And the Christmas connection was just when I mentioned it as a possibility to a friend and she said like the angel. :)

I love the name and have never taught a Gabriel so it's a bonus!

Thanks for your help! Grin

I quite like Gabriel but am afraid really don't like Gabe...all have different tastes though! I know one Gabriel who is 2 years old so don't think it's too popular..

TheOriginalNutcracker · 30/11/2011 11:51

I love the name Gabriel. I'm also not too keen on Gabe though, but it wouldn't put me off using the name.

PercyFilth · 30/11/2011 12:29

Angels aren't restricted to Christmas. I think you'll find the Archangel Gabriel is supposed to have turned up to see Mary 9 months before Christmas Wink

Grin good point Percy! Doh :)

Nope sleepy they're just the two names I really like for a boy Grin. What are the chances?! Think it's going to Gabriel for our first though - DH prefers it - and I really love it. Thanks for reassuring me people :) Okay an additional question. I know, am cheeky - for the middle name we wanted to use a family name so which do you prefer (if any?) - Michael, David or John? Thanks x

As far as names go I like them in this order: Michael, David, John. However think Gabriel John sounds the best!

DessieLou · 01/12/2011 11:03

I love Gabriel but am not allowed to use it so you must must must call your little angel Gabriel!
Gabriel John sounds the nicest.

WaftyCrank · 02/12/2011 21:28

Gabriel is a great name, I like Gabriel David or Gabriel John.

We have a Gabriel Luke. He's 8 months :)

bucketbetty · 02/12/2011 21:31

Beautiful. I love it. Smile

HoldTouchEngage · 03/12/2011 10:51

Absolutley fabulous but then i am biased Grin (we have a Gabriel Henry 2.5)

He couldn't be anything else and is a real character, As for nn's he gets them all, Gabe, Gabey, Gabri-woo and others that are just ridiculous little nn's that crop up and nothing to do with Gabriel lol!

We've had the raised eyebrows and the no don't do it comments, but now EVERYONE adores his name and he couldn't be anything else!

I vetoed it for my first pg (we had a dd anyway who is nearly 8), but for my 2nd pg i just knew i had to have it!

DO IT!!!!! Grin

permatannedpumpkin · 03/12/2011 23:45

Grin We are definitely going to do it, just discussing using either David (BILs first name) or John (my Dads first name and BIL and FIL's second name) as a middle name, leaning towards John tbh :)

I don't think it is too Christmassy, do it.

Mmmnotsure · 04/12/2011 14:29

John or David are better bets. Michael is a lovely name, but you risk being a bit too archangel-y (Gabriel, Raphael and Michael).

BikeRunSki · 04/12/2011 14:40

Love it, was on my list for if DD had been another DS.

spottyock · 04/12/2011 16:08

Mmmnotsure- my thoughts too.

I prefer David I think but like that John is from both families.
Beautiful name BTW. I think I prefer Gabe to Gabriel.
