isn't that Atticus??

ninah · 27/11/2011 16:43

kitty is the old thespian's sister from Little Britain

PercyFilth · 27/11/2011 16:51

Kitty is what people put money in on a night out.

ChateauMargot · 28/11/2011 14:09

Thanks to those of you who have been gentle.

Atticus is the boy's name. Attica is an old (antiquarian) name for Greece. Attica Locke is the American writer.

As I said before, we don't like the other names that are traditionally shortened to Kitty, hence going for something a bit different.

But perhaps Kitty on its own would be worth considering. I'd just like her to have an alternative, as it is a very particular sort of name!

DD2 was going to be Katya nn. Kitty.

IslaValargeone · 28/11/2011 14:14

Attica may be an old name for Greece, but it is still the name of the maximum security prison, housing serial killers. I don't know if that was gentle enough for you.

It seems v odd to me to want to give one name and then another as an 'alternative'! What for? Just in case your daughter decides she doesn't like it?

The point there is it's not going to be the parent's name, but the child's. A sensitive person will ensure that their son or daughter has a bit of leeway in case they dislike the name chosen for them.

MamaLazarou · 28/11/2011 15:07

Would they? I must be very insensitive, then. I chose a name my husband and I both liked, and thought suited the baby. No back-up. if he doesn't like it, he can change it. Is that not what most people do?

Acanthus · 28/11/2011 15:21

You only need leeway if you choose something odd unusual though

MamaLazarou · 28/11/2011 15:27

I see Hmm

Wow. Hadn't known people could get so het up over someone else's name choice. (What's eating you, Isla?? There's also an ADX Florence, incidentally...)

Cheers, Percy, and those who've suggested Kitty doesn't need an expanded form. Will continue to ruminate!

Lockets, Kitty isn't unusual, but there seem to be plenty of people who think it's a stripper's name. Also perhaps not ideal if DD turns out to be butch! Though I like Kit as a short form, too...

I like Attica, it's great! Kitty not quite for me but don't dislike it. I think I'd like to have the choice of it were me and think kitty works very well as a nickname for Attica! Smile
