After Milena Jesenska (sp), Kafka's confident and generally amazing woman. I love it but:

Is it too pretentious given that we are not in any way Czech?

Will everyone call her Milly (which sounds truly ridiculous with our surname)?

It's a lovely name. Could have Lena as nickname?

Not pretentious exactly, but my first thought was 'Isn't this in the wrong topic because I thought Milena was a contraceptive coil.'

Out loud, it's a little too close to malaena for me to use it.

I have never heard of Malaena. I have heard of Mirenas (is that what they're called) because I had one, but hoped that people wouldn't think of that! I was thinking Lena for a NN.

Malaena is poo with blood in, like a bleeding stomach ulcer can cause. I would avoid.

Marlene is OK if you say it the German way Mar-lay-na, but not so much the English.

Desmond Graham, the poet, published a collections of poems about his daughter Milena, pretty much starting at conception. It's a bit besides the point, I know, I just had to say it when I read the name Milena.

I really loved it, but think the Malaena has put me off... The number of people who said that was what they immediately thought of is a bit worrying! I don't care so much about the IUD as that is quite different, and if you take brand names too seriously you can't call your children ANYthing!

I love Milena, Lena is a great nickname. Don't let tenuous associations put you off, I'd go for it :)

lovely name. DD is a Milena as well, also kafka inspired and we are not czech and nobody calls her milly. never. ever. she does not have a nn but is simply milena :)
