How popular is Emily?

I know the name is quite high on the stats tables but I don't see many little Emilys around. Plenty in their 20's or 30's but do you know any under 5?

Have not met any baby Emily's

evamummy · 19/11/2011 19:43

I think Emily was THE nr 1 name a few years ago, so there are bound to be many little Emilys around.

birdofthenorth · 19/11/2011 20:02

Very!

spottyock · 19/11/2011 21:56

I know of lots under 5. Used to really like it; now not so much.

I have got one. I liked the name as I think it's popular because it's a classic not a fad. She is the only Emily in her nursery and I don't think I know another. But it was number one name

NewsClippings · 19/11/2011 22:32

I can think of a few little Emilys. Nice name though - if you like it, use it :)

BehindLockNumberNine · 19/11/2011 22:32

I have got one. She attends a large school with 90 children per yeargroup. She is now in Year 4 and has always been the only Emily in yer yeargroup.

So whilst many people say it is too popular, I myself do not agree.

It is popular, but not overly so, at least not here in the SE where you cannot move for Amelias, Mias, Hannahs and Sophies.

casperella · 19/11/2011 22:34

Very popular IME, prob depends where you live. I am North of the border.

ColourMeWithChaos · 19/11/2011 23:34

Lots of Emilys in teenage age groups now but not as many primary school/pre-school aged. Is a very classic name so will never be unusual.

Montsti · 20/11/2011 18:27

It is very popular but not faddy at all - in my opinion a bit like Thomas and Oliver I.e. Peaked in the last few years but classic names that don't age....if you love it I would go for it!

dreamfeeder · 20/11/2011 18:34

I know several but not hundreds. A colleague and a good friend's 2 year old spring to mind. I think it's a lovely name- is DD's middle name. I'd do it!!!!

Hulababy · 20/11/2011 18:39

Don't know any under 5.

Out of 12 girls, there are two in DD's class of 9/10 year olds.

BibiBelle · 20/11/2011 20:19

In Scotland here too and I know many. Then again people say that DD1's name is oober popular and we only know her Hmm

if you love it use it.

poppysocks · 20/11/2011 20:29

I have an Emily and really like the name but have always had a problem with its popularity. DH claimed it was the only name he liked though so we went with it. I have to say that we know no others. Having said that, there are times at the swimming pool/park when it seems they're everywhere and that REALLY bothers me. We call her Emmy, which solves that problem but it still nags at me a bit.

alemci · 20/11/2011 20:36

I have a baby Emily but she is now 16. I like the name too and I think it will always be a classic name.

You find this with names. they come and go.

inmysparetime · 20/11/2011 20:39

2 at my small day nursery (NW England), 2 more left for school in Sept. It's a nice name though.

VenusWineTrap · 22/11/2011 22:02

My DD is Emily, she's just turned 1 - she's the only Emily I've come across within the various activities I've taken her to.

I also work in a pre-school and in the 8 years I've been there, have only ever had one.

We knew it was a popular name, but we loved it. Pretty but traditional. I've been really surprised not to come across more given how popular it's supposed to be.

It's a lovely name. (imo!)

MogandMe · 22/11/2011 22:05

I only know 1 under 4.

hester · 22/11/2011 22:12

I know 2. It's quite a classic though, isn't it? Not faddy. If you like it, go for it.

MyBaby1day · 01/12/2011 20:05

I LOVE Emily!! Smile, it will ALWAYS be one of my favourite girls names. Not sure how many there are though!, probalay still a good few! x

CandyCaner · 01/12/2011 20:41

I know loads of Emilys aged 14-40, but no little Emilys.

ronx · 01/12/2011 20:50

I have a 15-month-old Emily. I know of two others, but I don't care. DH and I loved the name. Grin

PizzaSlut · 01/12/2011 22:28

I have an 11yo Emily, she was her only one in pre school, one in her year at primary and I think their is only one other in Yr7.

A couple of others in the other DC's classes but nothing that say its popular.

HugosGoatee · 01/12/2011 22:29

I know a brand new little Emily Smile
