What is your opinion on Dorothy.
I loved when I was pg with ds 9 years ago, but when I had dd I was a bit bored with it, and then I had another ds 4 years ago so couldn't use it again.
I am now starting to mull it over again.
Is it lovely, or dies it just blend in with all the Molly, Maude, Aggie, Beatrice, Florence type names (which I am quite bored with too).
I am difficult to please, as you can see Grin

I really like it. DP has vetoed it, though. :(

FrillyMilly · 18/11/2011 11:35

It's my MILs name so I associate it with her. I don't mind it but don't like Dot or Dottie which it often gets shortened to

Redrubyblues · 18/11/2011 11:38

Wizard of Oz or Men Behaving Badly.

Jokes about being a 'friend of Dorothy'.

Not sure if I like it or not.

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 18/11/2011 11:50

I suggested this name yesterday on another thread (don't know how it's gone down yet), but I love it!

When I first got pg, used to refer to the bump as a little dot (Dont know boy/girl) and did think Hmm put that on the list.

DH doesn't like it, but he has odd tastes imo.

LaFilleSurLePont · 18/11/2011 12:32

Love it. It's one of my favourites. It works well at any age imho.

birdofthenorth · 18/11/2011 14:50

I thought about this, was DH's nan's name. It's very rarely used these days despite having the same vintage feel as Ava, Ruby etc to me. I like Dorry or Dolly as nicknames more than Dot.

Towndon · 18/11/2011 15:02

It's nice - pretty and unusual.

3isamagicnumber · 18/11/2011 17:42

I'm not a fan - and dont like the shortened versions of Dot or Dotty.

Dorothy just makes me think Wizrd of Oz and Dot is just the old wrinkly chain smoking one in Easties!!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 18/11/2011 17:48

It's ok, prefer Dorothea though, it's less plain somehow and doesn't have the soap opera association.

ellesabe · 18/11/2011 19:31

It's on my shortlist :) I love it!

ilovesprouts · 18/11/2011 20:14

its my mothers name ,dd is pg and i said after grandma she said mum no way,

MartyrStewart · 18/11/2011 20:16

I Love it - wanted DD to be a little Dottie. DH Vetoed so now I have a much maligned on MN Poppy.

SpringHeeledJack · 18/11/2011 20:16

LOVE IT

dp vetoed it with dd, though

Lovely. Classic and underused these days.

MelinaM · 19/11/2011 23:26

No, I don't like it at all! I do rather like Dorothea though ...very bizarre I knowGrin

spottyock · 20/11/2011 07:42

I love it and the nn Dottie. Wasn't brave enough to use it for DD- being a 'friend of Dorothy' held me back. Would consider again though.

plainwhitet · 21/11/2011 19:04

I really wanted it as it was my favourite grandmother's name but felt the wizard of oz connotations were just too strong. So I used gran's maiden name as dd1's middle name which works well, and i have to say I think she would NOT like being called Dorothy. But , I do like Melina's suggestion!
