Does Dan sound too grown up for a baby?

Yes, but Daniel is lovely, you can shorten to Dan.

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2011 16:28

Yep. Daniel on birth certificate, then Dan or Danny til they have a preference.

SirBoobAlot · 13/11/2011 16:30

Dan is a nickname. Use Daniel, then he has the choice when he's older to shorten it or not.

prana70 · 13/11/2011 16:35

He will officially be Daniel - DH wants to shorten it to Dan.

Keep it as Daniel or Danny while you can - when he's a teenager his friends will shorten it to Dan and there'll be nothing you can do about it! ... speaking as one who knows......

LaFilleSurLePont · 13/11/2011 16:41

I love Daniel, but Dan is horrid.

Towndon · 13/11/2011 17:47

Yes, Daniel with nickname Dan. Both suit all ages IMO.

Grumpla · 13/11/2011 17:52

I love Danny (the champion of the world!) and Dan.

Rhubarbgarden · 13/11/2011 20:16

Great name.

I like Dan/Daniel/Danny but personally think Dan is too grown-up for a baby/young child...some names just seem to work such as Sam/Tom/Max etc..maybe Dan will eventually become one of those names...I know a Nicholas who was referred to as Nic from birth which I found very strange as I see it as an older boy's/man's name but each to their own and the parents choice ultimately...

3isamagicnumber · 14/11/2011 10:43

I love Daniel but dont like Dan or Danny which is why we'd never go for Daniel as inevitably it would get shortened.

HappyAsEyeAm · 14/11/2011 16:02

I have a Daniel. We shorten it to Dan-Dan as a pet name. Or Spaniel. But I know that when he gets older, he will be Dan - its inevitable, much as I don't want him to be a Dan.

chrisrobin · 14/11/2011 16:13

Like HappyAsEyeAm I have a Daniel occasionally called Dan-Dan, I don't like Danny and everyone seems to want to call him something 'cute' rather than his proper name but he has got very uppity about it lately (3 years old) and says 'No I am Daniel, the boy' Grin

redglow · 14/11/2011 19:45

My 17 year old is called Danny not Daniel as I did not like it. He is never been called Dan. But as a mum I still think he is cute.

theidsalright · 14/11/2011 21:04

I love Dan but not Daniel. Dan is on my list!
I don't think it is overly grown up at all. It's a good honest name!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/11/2011 21:13

Love Daniel/ Dan
