French name for DC2 - help please

DH and I had a huge list when it was DS, but this time round we just feel a bit about all the names. We can't even think where to start.

We'd like it to be a Saint's name, but we don't mind derivatives from a Saint's name iyswim.

So any ideas for girl or boy names please?

I don't want to post DS1's name directly as it's uncommon and I don't want to be searchable, but I can link to it here Just so you have an idea of what we went for last time :)

They'll have two middle names. The definites are Marie for a girl and Sébastien for a boy. So there's one of those each up for grabs as well.

Thanks very much :)

Louis, Claude, Damien, Mathieu, Olivier, Samuel and Guillaume are all close family :(

As are Magali, Solange, Mathilde and Brigitte

I do quite like Héloïse (it was on our list last time) and Arielle. I like Ines, but a friend has one. I love Agnes said in French, but I think English family would make it unbearable. Agathe is nice too.

I'm a Classicist so can't do Cassandre sadly, I'd always think of the House of Atreus.

I really like Aurélien, but I'm worried we'd be heading a bit too "Ave Caesar" with DS1 and DS2 have imperial names :o

Alexandre and Benoit are nice too.

There's just nothing that screams "pick me!"

It's so difficult.

Ooh, I think Sabine might make a nice middle name though...

And DH has just said "how about Edith?" on the phone. I think I might quite like it...

Your DS is the name we've chosen for our next DS if there is one.

We had:

Melisande
Stephanie
Yseult
Adele

And boys:

Aurelien
Adrien
Etienne
And our eventual choice

I liked Xavier but nabbed by close family.

ImpYCelyn · 11/11/2011 16:43

Melisande and Yseult are really pretty.

We also like Xavier, but it's been nabbed here too Shame, I love Xav/Xavi for short.

Can a boy have a Jean-x name? Because I love Jean-Baptiste (needs to be breathlessly whispered)

We stayed in a place called St Amarin once which would make a cool name. Plus, Amarine would work for a girl.

ImpYCelyn · 11/11/2011 18:58

Ok, just had a chat with DH - second middle name for DC2 if a boy will also be Marie.

So boy - X Sébastien Marie

And girl - X Marie Y

Two girl's names and one boy's name needed.

Leaning towards Aurélien for a boy, but I really think it might sound too Roman. And if we ever have a third DS we won't get away with calling him Jim, it'll have to be Augustus or Julius so he doesn't feel less important :o

DS has Jean as his first middle name.

Amarin/e is nice, I've never heard it used before.

Could have a hyphenated first name though for either, so potentially extra names needed.

We told people DS would be called Louis-Bernard - their faces were very funny :)

I love Ludovic and Loic, and although it isn't french I think Aloysius is just fab!

girliefriend · 11/11/2011 20:03

Aurelie (for a girl)

Josephine

Celeste

Constantine (Connie)

Those are all I can think of!!!

ImpYCelyn · 11/11/2011 20:17

I like Constance (Connie) actually.

DH has a cousin called Loic.

I joked with DH that we might need more emperor names and suggested Domitian. At which point he told me that his favourite name is Titien - which I actually really like, so that's going to the top of the list.

He also suggested Oriane - which is also going to the top.

Thanks everyone, you've given us lots of ideas :)
