Boring, boring I know, but I an due in 6 weeks and struggling to decide on a boys name (dong know the sex, we've chosen Martha for a girl). We'll probably only reach a decision after the birth, but I'd appreciate some feedback on the shortlist as it may help us to narrow it down a little beforehand.

Our DS is called George and we have a two syllable surname starting with K.

Our first choice would be Robin, but we stupidly used this for DS's middle name.

Rory
Fraser
Adam
Seth
Toby
Benjamin
Leo

Mmmm, am leaning towards Adam at the moment. Was chatting to DH about these names today (we rarely discuss name ideas as pretty bored with the while topic to be honest) and he is most keen on Rory and Adam. No doubt I'll have changed my mind again by tomorrow though!

Thanks for the positive comments re Martha too! I so love the name, think it goes well with George and it's not particularly popular round here (have only encountered one since DS was born), although I know it's v popular in some areas.

Some people have said there's no problem with using robin, but one or two others gave been horrified by the thought, which put me off.

How old is your ds? Is he old enough to have an opinion about you reusing Robin?

silver28 · 06/11/2011 22:07

He's only 3 so not really Grin

Like Toby / Tobias
Adam is strong and traditional
Leo is ok
Dont like the others

Adam goes well with George I think. Seth reminds me of the guy from Emmerdale. Leo is a good name especially if you don't want his name to be shortened much.

Rory - love, would like this if I had a ds
Fraser - no, also I think you need to be scottish.
Adam - is okay
Seth - no, sounds either too Biblical or a bit snakey
Toby - yes but there are lots
Benjamin - yes, but will be Ben!
Leo - there are quite a few, I like it but it does sound like it's short for something, a but nicknamey

toughdecisions · 07/11/2011 10:07

Ben & Adam quite popular.
Sorry don't like Seth.
Fraser best, Toby second.

George and Martha is lovely!

I like Fraser, Toby, Benjamin and Leo - although would be tempted to go the whole hog and use Leopold - maybe as a mn and Leo could then be used as nn

I am a child of the 80s and there were too many Adams at school for me to be able to dissasociate that name from them and assess it objectively!

I'm not keen on Seth

I wouldn't use Robin, although I've given DD the same mn as me (to pass something on as she hasn't got my surname), I wouldn't have given her my mn as a first name, as I think your first name should be special to you. But it really depends on how you feel about it.

Benjamin with perhaps Leopold as a middle name?

silver28 · 07/11/2011 15:16

Thanks for the further comments. Am going off Seth. Although done people like it, it seems to generate more negative reaction than other choices. not that it should matter but it does influence my opinion of the name.

Re Benjamin, think we're more likely to use it as a middle name.

Following chat with DH I think we're favouring Adam, Rory and Fraser at the moment. Although i still like Leo too but doubt we'd use it for some reason. Anyway, as long as we have a relatively short shortlist I'll feel ok about making a decision after the birth Smile

First off, are you sure you want George and Martha? Tis very Washington..

Rory -- lovely, and nice with George
Fraser -- lovely, goes well with George
Adam -- a bit wet
Seth -- what snakes would say if they could talk
Toby -- prefer Tobias
Benjamin -- lovely, nice with George
Leo -- the nicest imo. Leopold is fab too.

Not bothered about the george and Martha washington connection Grin, in fact it hadn't even occurred to me really, so def not enough of a problem to put me off!
