Luisa/Lucia/Elisabetta

Help! We are expecting our DD2 (third child) and can't agree on names. DH is Italian and we live in UK, so we would like an Italian name but one that works well with English speakers. So far we have:

Luisa - my favourite but apparently it's v old lady in Italy (which doesn't bother me at all but DH not convinced)
Lucia - his suggestion which I really like too, but he's gone off it
Elisabetta - nice but I am worried it's a bit of a tongue twister here

Please can you tell me what you think of these and suggest some more?

I think they are all lovely names[smiles] I like Lucia the best.

Psammead · 04/11/2011 19:27

I have a Lucia so that would be my choice!

Lucia is lovely :) I like Luisa too.

Elisabetta is a bit of a mouthful for English speakers.

How about Serena, Natalia, Marina, Lia, Alessia, Anna, Ariella, Carla, Francesca, Isabella, Teresa (Tess)?

I love Lucia.

I'd imagine that an Elisabetta might well get shortened (like Elisabeth often is) so I'm not sure it matters that it's long (unless you dislike any of the obvious nns). But I do think that you and your dh need to love then name as it doesn't sound like any of the names really appeal to both of you.

I like Lucia best but it might get irritating that it will be mispronounced a lot in the UK I.e. Lu-see-a as opposed to Lu-chee-a...

I also like Chiara.

Jeezimacasalinga · 05/11/2011 09:23

Thanks everyone. nooka I think that is the problem, there isn't a name that is jumping out and screaming 'pick me!' this time (Our DD1 is Elena and we chose that easily).

I prefer Luisa or Lucia to Elisabetta.

Other suggestions:
Marisa - love this!
Marina
Ariadne
