Yay or nay?

Loving Xanthe as a mn. Any other suggestions for a fn with a similar feel to Henrietta?

Ta x

It's a bit of a mouthful but would you say them both at once??

Why not use Xanthe as the first name?

Psammead · 03/11/2011 20:06

Georgina
Bernadette
Penelope
Arabella

I like Henrietta though.

RIZZ0 · 03/11/2011 20:07

I know a Xanthe and it's grown on me.

Henrietta TBH is a bit flouncy for me and the two add up to be rather a mouthful as Bibi says.

Towndon · 03/11/2011 20:26

Fantastic name, I really like it :)

zozzle · 03/11/2011 22:31

Sorry really dislike the name Henrietta (Henry ate her) - too public school.

Love Xanthe. Not sure what it means though - and meanings are v. important IMO.

zozzle · 03/11/2011 22:33

Also not sure about the combo - posh followed by cool. Maybe that's just me - others may disagree.

Harriet
Claudia
Cordelia
Celeste
Delphine

proudfoot · 03/11/2011 23:00

Henrietta a bit much IMO when paired up with Xanthe but do love Harriet.

Pastabee · 03/11/2011 23:03

I like Henrietta and I like Xanthe but I think they are very different so wouldn't normally be used together. I think it works well if you are looking for an unusual combination.

Xanthe means 'yellow' so is very often used for fair girls.

Montsti · 04/11/2011 08:13

Henrietta is nice, but not so keen on Xanthe..

LottieBronte · 04/11/2011 18:13

Bit of a mixed response.

I agree it is a bit of a mouthful but we wouldn't say them both at once. Our sn is short and 1 syllable so we can get away with a longer fn anyway.

Like all the suggestions - but not as much as Henrietta ;-)

I love Henrietta, it's one of my favourites and I have a one syllable surname too
Like you say how often do you say your full name including middle name!
Go for it!

Towndon · 04/11/2011 19:52

You obviously love the name :) Go for it I say :o

HereKittyKitty · 04/11/2011 22:41

What is the surname? My friend wanted to call her baby Henrietta Dick. She changed her mind...

LottieBronte · 04/11/2011 22:59

PMSL at Dick......rules out Henrietta completely doesn't it?

Henrietta is horrific. Give her a proper girl's name, not an amendment to a boy's one. Xanthe is pretentious.

BunnyLebowski · 07/11/2011 14:59

Henrietta is one of the ugliest names in existence. It's sounds so clumpy and mannish and harsh.

Xanthe is a bit hipsterish but infinitely better than Henrietta.

mathanxiety · 07/11/2011 16:07

I love Henrietta (the clunkiness is part of the attraction I think). Henrietta Xanthe is very nice. Good nn potential.

Other suggestions --
Araminta
Cecelia
Helena
Josephine
Aphra
