DH and I already have 2 DC (DD Hope Gabriella and DS Felix Anthony). We know we are expecting ID twins so need two names for each gender. We both like classic names that aren't too popular but the latter isn't that important if we love the name. We already have some ideas so what are your thoughts on these?

Boys
Patrick
Marcus
Jared
Ronan
Dominic
Barnaby

Girls
Lydia
Violet
Ivy
Iona
Tamsin

Thoughts on what sound good together and also any other suggestions would be great :)

Lydia, Lydia, Lydia. No competition. Oh, ha ,ha, just realised you need two names! So, Lydia and Violet I think are gorgeous together. Ivy = pah. Iona = looks odd, and Tamsin, sounds a bit clunky to me.

Of your boys I like Dominic, Patrick and Barnaby. Marcus is a bit sleazy 1980's estate agent for me. Jared is quite nice, and Ronan I couldn't use unless I was Irish (which I am not) because I'd worry people thought I liked Boyzone or something.

Violet and Patrick. Lovely.

Possibly Lydia.

QueenVictoria42 · 03/11/2011 19:41

Soontobefour - we have spookily similar tastes, I also like Gabriella which I see is your LO's mn. Lydia is an all time favourite, and oh go on then, I shall share with you my other favourite girls name....Claudia. Some don't like it because of the meaning (lame) but I don't care.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/11/2011 19:45

Love Barnaby. Don't like Jared or Ronan.
Like Lydia and Violet and quite like Tamsin. Don't like Iona.

Barnaby and Violet are my faves.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/11/2011 19:48

Sorry - ID twins so -

Barnaby and Rowan (nicer than Ronan imho)
Barnaby and Gregory
Barnaby and Laurie (Laurence)

Violet and Lydia (lovely)
Violet and Vivienne (if you're into alliterative siblings, which I'm not)
Vivienne and Lydia
Violet and Constance
Violet and Charlotte
Violet and Hermione

scarlettlips · 04/11/2011 09:07

From your list my pick would be: Patrick, Barnaby, Violet and Iona

Sorry but Lydia is just yucky yuck, also i don't think it works with Hope and Felix. But that's just me.

What about: Girls: Isla, Alice, Charlotte (Lotty) Eliza, Victoria, Avery (unisex) Xanthe, Ursula, Virginia (Ginny, Gigi) Diana (Didi)
Boys: Rowan (unisex) Capser, Jasper, Tristan, Arthur (Art) Algernon (Algy) Montgomery (Monty) Roderick (Roddy) Xander, Elliott, Dexter.

Collision Loving your name choices. Romilly Violet is very sweet.

largeginandtonic · 04/11/2011 09:21

Some lovely names on your list. I don't really like Tamsin or Jared.

Collision has some great combo's in her post Smile

I would like to add Herbert or Bunty to the list.

Violet and Bunty is v cool and Herbert and Barnaby sound good too.

I am desperate to see twins with these names, ideally together Grin

Peetle · 04/11/2011 09:36

I have ID twin girls (now 4.5) and you're right about looking for a combination that works together. We have twins friends with names that I don't think work (very different lengths and numbers of syllables) and others that do (even the same number of letters in one case). They should sound different though - you'll need to be able to shout one out when the child is running into the road, and be sure you've shouted the right one...

I'm afraid "Lydia" just makes me think of Groucho Marx singing "Lydia the tatooed lady" but maybe that's just me.

MelinaM · 04/11/2011 10:21

Lydia and Tamsin are my favourites, lovely!

Barnanby is lovely for a boy, and Patrick nn Patch would be fab tooSmile

SoonToBeFour · 04/11/2011 18:39
