horrible

2wwmadness · 02/11/2011 20:44

I know one is lexie what's the other daughter? I think it's awful too. It's hit a mouth full (excusing how chav "lourdez" is)

Feiw It's bit that bad as a name on the right person. It's very religious I think it suits madonnas daughter but not a Gerrard. I just don't see it?!

Ella-Lily or Lily-Ella I can't remember

and it's Lexie after her

MamaLazarou · 02/11/2011 21:01

Lovely, bit religious for my liking, though. I am assuming they are Catholic? Who are they?

iarebaboon · 02/11/2011 21:03

How do you say Lourdes? I've always wondered. Is it lords? Or lord ez?

iarebaboon · 02/11/2011 21:03

Or loo ar day? Confused

MamaLazarou · 02/11/2011 21:04

Loor-des, AKAIK.

iarebaboon · 02/11/2011 21:04

And who are Alex and steven?

iarebaboon · 02/11/2011 21:05

And what is AKAIK?

I'm full of questions this evening Grin

PootlePosyPumpkin · 02/11/2011 21:08

The name is not to my taste - really, really not to my taste but if it has been chosen for religious reasons then fair enough.

If it's been chosen as a homage to Madonna or because it "sounds cool" then it's chavvy to the extreme.

2wwmadness · 02/11/2011 21:09

Alex an Steven garrard Liverpudlian chav footballer/wife extraordinaire! I think it's lovely, on a religious family. Not sure here. Their other daughters are Lilly-Ella, Lexie and lourdes. Good luck to them though! Seen a nice family. Just odd choice of name from them.

2wwmadness · 02/11/2011 21:10

Pootle I'm guessing the latter

"the have three l names too ffs"

Confused
Dragonwoman · 02/11/2011 21:15

It's pronounced Lord-ez.
It's not that uncommon a name among Catholic families. I used to work with a lady called Lourdes years before Madonna had her daughter! The Gerrards are Catholic and there are alot of Catholics in and around Liverpool. She may not be the only local child with the name!

comedaygoday · 02/11/2011 21:53

Given that their elder daughters do not have especially Catholic names, I suspect that Lourdes was named in homage to Madonna and because it was another "L"name and therefore fitted with their other daughters names. It is horrible though.

stressheaderic · 02/11/2011 21:57

I think it's horrible too.

(And I think Stevie G is a bit gutted not to have had a boy)

tammytoby · 02/11/2011 21:58

Can you imagine the confusioin when they're teenagers and post arrives addressed to Miss L. Gerrard Grin?

Fayrazzled · 02/11/2011 22:02

Dragonwoman, I am a Catholic born to Liverpudlian parents and grew up near Liverpool where yes, there is a big Catholic population. I have NEVER come across a Lourdes before. I'm not saying in some Catholic communities it is never used as a name, and clearly there is a very famous Catholic shrine the Gerrards may be naming their baby after, but it is still a very unusual choice for a baby in Liverpool.

MelinaM · 02/11/2011 22:09

The correct pronunciation is Loord, the final 's' is silent - like most final consonants in French.

Lords is the English pronunciation.

2wwmadness · 02/11/2011 22:39

The gerrards are catholic! Well blow me I didnt know that. Don't strike me a the religious type (obviously no offence intended I just don't see them off to mass every sunday I mean)

Dragonwoman · 02/11/2011 23:00

Fayrazzled - I'm not saying it's a common name - just not so unheard of that they MUST be copying Madonna.

The lady I worked with was mixed race with one parent born & raised abroad so this may have been a factor in her parents choice of name. She def. pronounced it Lord-ez.

I don't know about the strength of the Gerrards' beliefs but they did get married in a Catholic church.

EightiesChickOrTreat · 02/11/2011 23:08

There are far worse names out there but personally I don't like the thing of giving more than one of your kids the same initial. Nice to differentiate a bit more.
The Gerrards are probably as Catholic as many people who still think of themselves as Catholic in spite of not having set foot in a church in years (not that I know whether they have or haven't).
