My db and sil are expecting their first baby next may and are considering Olympia for a girl or Olympus for a boy.

In honour of the Olympics apparently.

I'm not keen but I suppose its different!

What do you all reckon?

Olympia - tube station
Olympus - a mountain

I think I wouldn't like to name a child with a word associated with a mountain.

A girl really could do better than 'Mount Olympia' being shouted after her in her teens at school....

Olympia - a pretty greek girls name.
Olympus - a well known brand of camera!
Confused

Are they serious? Both hideous names. Olympia only marginally better than Olympus. What would the nicknames be? Lympy? Pussy?

"in honour of the Olympics" sorry a bit sad...however I actually like the name Olympia for a girl (as long as you don't live in West London...) but think Olympus is bordering on ridiculous - sorry....

If we have a girl, I would love to use Olympia as a mn because it is a family name. I'm not confident to use it as a fn though, and don't really like Olympus for a boy, so would only use it if we have a girl. I must admit at first I didn't really like it when scouring OH's family for names, but it has grown on me. I do also think that the Olympics association is a nice one too and for us it would be two reasons to use the name.

At least it can be shortened to Ollie either way but I wouldn't want it as a name for me or my children but each to their own!!

No!! The Olympics will be done and dusted in 2 weeks (in London anyway) but that poor kid will have to live with that forever!!
