This is our chosen boys name, however me and my partner cannot agree on the spelling! I prefer the 'ley' spelling but he insists that's the girl version! Opinions please! X

floweryblue · 29/10/2011 01:28

agree with your DP and mardy

HeidiHole · 29/10/2011 05:45

Agree with your dp. Charley is def girl. Definately

MrsJamin · 29/10/2011 05:48

Charley is hideous even for a girl, sorry

Slightlyreluctantexpat · 29/10/2011 05:54

Charlie for a boy, but why not call him Charles officially and have Charlie as his day-to-day nickname?

MadameCastafiore · 29/10/2011 06:59

Agree with slightly. Charles is better with nickname Charlie. Charley is how you spell it for a girl which is IMHO awful.

Montsti · 29/10/2011 08:09

Agree with everyone else. Charlie = boy (I like), Charley = girl (terrible name for a girl). I would also put Charles on BC and use Charlie as a nn. Will give him more options in the future.

crikeybadger · 29/10/2011 08:18

It's not always -ley for a girl...unless Charley Boorman is a woman in disguise. Smile

SaffronCake · 29/10/2011 13:58

Someone's beaten me to it, I was going to say Charley Boorman too. Mr Boorman is surely living every little boys dream? He was an actor, his best friend is Ewan MacGregor, he now gives his job title as professional adventurer and I know he also acts as an off road motorcycling instructor in Wales if you can afford him. Nothing girly about CB... except the hair.

eaglewings · 29/10/2011 14:01

Agree with your dp sorry!

Charlie is fine, no need to have Charles IMO

comedaygoday · 29/10/2011 16:40

Charlie for a boy, but put Charles on his birth certificate. Charley is a public information film cat.

piprabbit · 29/10/2011 16:44

Put Charles on his BC and let him choose his nickname (my dad has gone through life being called different variants of Charles by different groups of friends - at least my mum always knows where people know him from depending on the name they use).

Trills · 29/10/2011 16:46

Charlie.

But really I prefer it as a girl's name (still spelled Charlie)

And I always think you should give children full names so they have the choice.
