I'm really liking this name, but my dh thinks it sounds a bit common. I say it's not common at all...your opinions please.

To my elderly ears it sounds terribly old fashioned. "Big Bertha" was always a joke name.

Wanker yourself, btw, if we're handing out random insults. Hmm

auntyfash · 22/10/2011 01:02

Of course I meant it for a boy! I could never call a daughter that name. Tosser is and always has been a lad's name imo.

I find Emily and Martha old fashioned but they seem to be acceptable wanky names.

My other kids are called Fanny and Donna. I need something to go with those.

Look here, I'm pig ugly, my husband makes Plug look handsome, my child has no chance! Maybe what I should have said in my OP was is Bertha a good name for a pug ugly child?

yes Bertha is a good name for a pug ugly fat boy.

adamschic · 22/10/2011 20:20

I know a couple of Bertha's both nicknames for fat lads. Also know a woman called Bertha, not sure if it's a nickname or not.

scarevola · 22/10/2011 20:21

Sorry, but the Big Bertha associations are just too strong, even though it's over 60 years since the War.

betheldeath · 22/10/2011 20:23

My name is Beth and I am quite tall compared to the rest of my family and so was nicknamed Big Bertha.

It does not hold attractive connotations.

RightUpMyRue · 22/10/2011 20:25

Sounds fat.
