i have always loved this name but have not ever met anyone else who has!

MelinaM · 21/10/2011 23:41

I think you could get away with it in America, but as for the UK I'm not so sure ...."You big Jesse" is a common expression in parts.

BibiBelle · 22/10/2011 00:51

Love it, unless you're in Scotland where a Big Jessie is a big wuss

JamieComeHome · 22/10/2011 08:07

I really like it. I now someone with a toddler Jesse.

However, people fairly often mistake him for a girl

It was our boy choice. It could be brave in some areas but southern mners seem to express bewilderment at this view

scarevola · 22/10/2011 13:36

It sounds very American to me. And the "you big jessie" association would put me off in UK.

morethemerrier · 22/10/2011 19:08

Love it! Grin

I have a 14yo Jesse. I despair at the 'big Jessie' comments - really says more about the adults than the name.
My son has never EVER been teased about his name. So what if it is popular in USA or Australia - I still love it and have never regretted using it.
Go for it.

comedaygoday · 23/10/2011 17:57

It's a great name and given that it's biblical, I wouldn't think of it as a US name particularly. I'm also not sure that Jessie is a current playground insult.

LoulouCapone · 23/10/2011 19:56

My Ds is Jesse... It seems by the current replies to this thread that the Mumsnet worm is turning, as usually the reactions are mostly negative. In fact on a previous thread it got so bad one poster went as far as to say she wouldn't sleep with a Jesse. Hmm

I'm a bit sad that you all like it... I'd hate it to become popular! Grin

Love it, I'm from the midlands originally and have never heard the phrase 'big Jesse'.

LoulouCapone · 24/10/2011 10:58

Lockets I always know I can count on you on the Jesse threads!

I was in a foul mood when that particular thread started, (heavily pregnant, desperate for a name, and up for a bunfight) and I was a bit fed up that that poster didn't reply to my response. Looking back it was probably for the best. Grin
