Iggy??

Problem. Dc have nicknamed my belly Iggy. I have no idea where it has come from. Possibly mooshi monsters?! But now every day it is 'morning Iggy, night Iggy, Iggy needs a kiss' and it is growing on me as a very sweet nickname. I don't know if I am having a boy or a girl but I do feel like I need a 'proper' name for the baby, just in case it becomes Prime Minister. Igor/Ignatius aren't really my cup of tea. Does anyone have any ideas?

Inigo? Or is that a bit of a stretch?

Are there any names that end in ig? What's Iggy Pop's real name?

EdithWeston · 18/10/2011 10:45

Sigismond? Diego? Diggory? Miguel? Nigel? Sigurd? Viggo?

Hedwig? Sigrid?

EdithWeston · 18/10/2011 10:47

And I googled Iggy Pop - he's James Newell (Jim) Osterberg Jr, which probably doesn't help!

luckywinner · 18/10/2011 10:48

Iggy Pop's real name is James! So basically I can go with anything Grin. I like the name Inigo but taught an Inigo who put me off the name forever. The curse of the teacher.

Ooh Edith I like Diggory, as will dc as they are basically obsessed with Harry Potter.

Siegfried?
Ingrid?
Ignatius?
Poppy? (Iggy-Pop Grin)

luckywinner · 18/10/2011 10:51

Heehee, I love Poppy. It is actually on my girls list. That is a brilliant tenuous link to the name, its a sign Grin

The Prime Minister has been likened to Iggle Piggle...

MartyrStewart · 18/10/2011 10:54

Grin Not at all biased Wink )

luckywinner · 18/10/2011 10:57

Arrrrggggghhh, I had forgotten the iggle-piggle likeness. Please please don't let dc3 come out looking like a baked bean.

Martyr, fabulous name. Every Poppy I have met has been lovely.

Iggy is a very cool nickname!

Poppy is lovely for a little lady.

How about using I names and G names to give initial IG or IGG, then use nickname Iggy?

Isaac Gregory Gabriel
Ivan
Isaiah

Isabelle Georgia Grace
Isla Gabrielle
Isis Genevieve

I am sure you can think of better ones but you get the idea!

luckywinner · 18/10/2011 13:05

MrsOzz, I like that idea. And Gabriel is one of my fav names, although not dh's so I could at least sneak it in as a nickname. Am off to scour the name books.

Following MrsOzz

Ian/Iain
Ichabod
Idris

Iona

birdofthenorth · 19/10/2011 09:22

Digby! Or Ignatious, which is indeed very cool (though easier to get away with if you have any hispanic links!)

samstown · 19/10/2011 16:13

I think some of the posters on this thread have forgotten that this is an actual person you are talking about naming here!

EdithWeston · 19/10/2011 16:34

If you're going for the initials approach, it would help enormously if your surname started with a G or a Y.

ImoGen Grace?
Isabella Ghislaine?
Iris Georgette?
India Gwen?
Ivy Gabriella?

Ian Gareth?
Ivor George?
Innes Graham?
Isa Gilbert?
Inigo Gregory?

Dutchie77 · 19/10/2011 17:02

Why not Iggy as a middle name? And I'll vote for a prime minister who's name is Iggy!;)

Iggly · 19/10/2011 21:19

Why not just use a name you like and Iggy can be the family nickname? Confused

We did this with DS - his "bump" name is no way, shape or form linked to his "proper" name but we still use it (only me and DH). it's nice to have our own special name for him which we can explain when he's older.

MogTheForgetfulCat · 19/10/2011 21:20

My DS2 is Isaac, one of his nicknames is Iggy Smile.

iggi999 · 20/10/2011 16:48

Well I like it Grin

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 20/10/2011 16:58

Igraine or Ignatius Grin

lill72 · 21/06/2012 15:39

What did you end up going with?

bigbluebump · 21/06/2012 15:54

I know an Iggy, short for Ignatius. Love it!

For a girl, perhaps Ingrid?

SilverSky · 21/06/2012 16:01

Indigo! Grin

luckywinner · 21/06/2012 18:27

She's called Tess! Nothing to do with Iggy but it stuck for ages after she was born. She came 3 weeks early so didn't name her for a bit. I like ingrid though, would have been a good grown up version to iggy. Miss hearing iggy. Had grown to quite love it. Dd1 still calls her it sometimes. Maybe I'll encourage that a little more Grin
