Different, nice, they will spend a lot of time spelling it over the phone to call centres though.. Grin

scaevola · 14/10/2011 21:41

Prefer Merlin!

seeker · 14/10/2011 21:41

Isn't it Emrys?

manicinsomniac · 14/10/2011 21:47

I've never heard it befre but it has an attractive sound

bess23 · 14/10/2011 21:47

seeker · 14/10/2011 21:48

Are you Welsh?

1oredscarf · 15/10/2011 11:39

like it.

DuelingFanjo · 15/10/2011 11:48

Yes Emrys, for a boy.

CurwySwide · 15/10/2011 14:28

Emrys is nice - it does say ruddy faced farmer/outdoors type to me though.

shoobidoo · 17/10/2011 12:43

I quite like Emrys - never met a real life one, but the name sounds masculine, is easy to spell/pronounce, isnt' overused, so a great choice imo.

Fixture · 17/10/2011 15:05

Haven't heard of it, but it sounds nice.

ShowOfHands · 17/10/2011 15:07

I wanted Emrys for ds but dh didn't like it enough.

It's a good, solid name. As is Merlin. Grin

picnicbasketcase · 17/10/2011 15:07

Have you been watching Merlin, OP?

CaptainNancy · 17/10/2011 15:15

Emrys is lovely; never seen it with an 'i' though.

BelleEnd · 17/10/2011 15:17

Please spell it Emrys if you're going to use it.

Shutupanddrive · 17/10/2011 18:54

Yes it's lovely [hsmile]

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 24/10/2011 13:31

yes, love Emrys

activate · 24/10/2011 13:31

I think someone has been watching too much Merlin

and would walk away laughing

helendigestives · 25/10/2011 08:54

(Merlin is awesome.) Emrys is a lovely name.

cumbria81 · 25/10/2011 10:17

It says "ruddy faced middle aged farmer" to me as well

Lythan · 25/10/2011 11:15

I have a teenaged Emrys and he is a computer geek rather than a ruddy faced farmer. It does make watching Merlin more fun as he has never met anyone with the same name and gets freaked by hearing it on the tv! We chose it because it is a Welsh name that English people can say quite easily. It is the Welsh for Ambrose apparently

mavornia · 25/10/2011 11:22

ooh, I like it - I've been lurking looking for inspiration myself

do you think it would be odd to use it if there was no Welsh connection in the family whatsoever

I think I prefer it to Ambrose

ragged · 25/10/2011 11:34

Everyone will think it's after the TV show.
But you could do worse, there's a 9-10yo Annakin living locally.
And i know a 15yo called Ripley after the Alien heroine.
