Gertrude and Augusta

What do you think?
These are my current dream land twins.
They are on my list for dc5, and not sure dh will go for dc 6, so maybe twins.
I like nn Gertie and Gussie, but there is also the options of Trudy and Aggie.

Nice names and sweet together but I wouldn't really. They sound a bit like a pair of guinea pigs! Hmmm I don't know - I think they sound too much like a 'pair' to work well together. The kind of names you'd give a pair of guinea pigs or rabbits just about sums it up for me.

My chances of me actually getting twins or dc 6 is small , so I am not too worried about them sounding matchy! Realistically dc5 will be the last (of dh has anything to do with it!)

Sorry but Gertrude is definitely on my top 5 ugliest names ever list.

Augusta is okay. Not a fan though

They both sound like fat girl names. Sorry. Both really ugly names.

I like Augusta but think it should only be for babies born in August. If your DH allows you to carry on procreating and you get to DC8 you would also be legitimately allowed Octavia which I love

Gertrud nicer than Gertrude imo. I think it might join Agatha and Agnes as sort of hip names. I would choose Gertrud and Agatha as cool-ironic names for a set of twins.

Augusta just makes me think of flatulence for some reason.

Augusta was on our list for DD and she is neither fat or ugly. [biased emoticon].

I love Augusta - feminine, classic and sounds great in most (European) languages. And not overused.

Gertrude is nice too, and Gertie a cute nickname, although the name is less fashionable at the moment (I bet it will be in 10-15 years though).

Gertrude - just no, my brother used to call me that to take the mick. It sounds like something from 1900. Augusta I am not keen on either.

My Aunt (she's 75 now) is officially a Gertrude and absolutely hates it. I've never heard her called by it, she used Gerda, and she really resented the fact that her sisters had what she deemed much more normal names. It's an old family name on the German side of my family. I'm not expecting that one to be revived ever.

And gussie will always be a newt lover to me.

tryingtoleave I don't mind the newt lover connection, Gussie Fink-Nottle was a chap anyway. And newts aren't so bad

Why on earth would you shorten Augusta to Gus..?! Augusta rolls off the tongue easily enough, otherwise Aggie is very cute imo.

Same with Gertrude, surely you'd shorten to Gertie or Trudie (not Gert, which is a boys name).

I think both are lovely, underused names. You're just a few years ahead of the curve .
