I like Sylvie but worry it may be a bit trendy - perhaps the new Amelie?

I haven't heard of it becoming popular yet. Sophia/Sofia is definitely making a comback so Sylvie would be a great choice.

belgo · 13/10/2011 09:02

Very pretty name.

Bonsoir · 13/10/2011 09:12

Sylvie is very old fashioned in France - take a look at this chart which shows that the heyday of Sylvie was in 1964.

It's a truly horrible name in French!

Fixture · 13/10/2011 09:17

I think it's becoming a bit trendy, yes.

rachel1970 · 13/10/2011 09:31

I don't know any little Sylvies. Have a look at last year ONS statistics to see how often it was used last year.

MelinaM · 13/10/2011 10:49

I agree that it's 'on trend' and liable to date.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 13/10/2011 11:29

Haven't met or heard of one yet. The only places I've seen it mentioned is on MN and the Topsy & Tim books (she's one of the bullies)

Rhubarbgarden · 14/10/2011 12:58

I met a beautiful little 2 year old Sylvie this morning. I think there are a few around but not loads.

oohlaalaa · 14/10/2011 13:17

Lovely name. Met a Sylvia (in her 70s), but never a Sylvie.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/10/2011 14:22

Both my SIL and my Sister's MIL are Sylvia. They are both lovely. Would Sylvia be an option?

tummytickler · 14/10/2011 15:08

Sylvie is defo trendy, I think. Sylvia is far nicer.

MerryMarigold · 14/10/2011 15:10

Know 1 Sylvie (2yrs). I love it. Like Sylvia too. Had a friend Sylvia and her Mum called her Sylv which was lovely I think.

mathanxiety · 14/10/2011 15:23

I like Sylvia more. Sylvie is a bit wispy by comparison imo.

chipmonkey · 14/10/2011 15:49

My dd was Sylvie-Rose. ( she died last week aged 7 weeks Sad ) There was also another Sylvie in the NICU so think it may be becoming popular.

Fixture · 14/10/2011 16:06

I prefer Sylvia too.

JiltedJohnsGhoulie · 14/10/2011 18:28

That is such a beautiful name Chipmonkey.

mathanxiety · 14/10/2011 19:38

Oh Chipmonkey -- so very sorry. How are you?

GRW · 14/10/2011 19:59

I'm so sorry chipmonkey. Sylvie-Rose is a beautiful name.

chipmonkey · 14/10/2011 20:22

Not great, math but have good support from friends and neighbours and also from a lot of lovely ladies on MN. She was a beautiful baby, born prematurely but had been doing very well. Her death was a total shock.

mathanxiety · 14/10/2011 20:34

My heart goes out to you.

AngieWatts · 14/10/2011 20:35

Lovely name.

Sylvie-Rose is just beautiful, Chipmonkey. I am so sorry for your loss.
