Kit for a girl

tommyfools · 12/10/2011 22:29

DH and I both Kit as a name for a girl

But (probably) people think of it as a boys name

So thinking we need a longer name that Kit could be a nn for.

Any ideas?

that is the problem - DD1 is a Rina (Catherine actually though)
So can't have Catherine

Well, for blokes Kit was traditionally short for Christopher, so how about a female Chris name?

Christy
Christine
Christabel
Christen
Kristen
Kirsten
Chrystal?

Or failing that

I'm liking birdofthenorth's Kitten suggestion!

Christa
Christina
Christiana

Karissa
Kirstie
Kitara /Kithara ...may sound a little too much like cattarh?!

my granny was a kitty -short for Kathleen

iskra · 13/10/2011 05:01

My female tutor was a Kit, short for Christopher Hmm

Fixture · 13/10/2011 09:17

Katherine

There's a book called The Lark in the Morn which has a heroine called Kit. I always loved it as a name. It's short for her surname but why does it need to be short for anything? Short names are good.

IssyStark · 16/10/2011 21:14

Kit was my grandmother-in-law's name.

It is short for Katherine (Kit is short for another diminutive of Katherine - Kitty).

chandellina · 17/10/2011 16:16

Cricket. never will get past the MN censors or most DHs but I think it's very sweet.

Dutchie77 · 17/10/2011 17:45

I love that name! Kit is such a cool name

Hulababy · 17/10/2011 17:52

My auntie is called Kit. Her full name is Kathleen.

dearheart · 17/10/2011 19:36

Kezia nn Kit would just about work.

someRaaRaaplease · 17/10/2011 22:41

I like it just as Kit.

But peoplemay think it is a nn for a Catherine like name - which would be odd. So actually having it just as Kit may be better.

Fixture · 17/10/2011 22:58

Kitara, Kitra, Kitlyn

... but Katherine much nicer!

anyagoogle · 17/10/2011 23:47

It is a pity you already have a Catherine as that would be the best one.

But I like the idea of having Kristen or Kirsten or even just Kit as the name (plenty of names are only 3 letters long and lovely)

Fixture · 18/10/2011 08:30

Nikita

BikeRunSki · 18/10/2011 08:32

One of the loveliest old ladies I ever knew was Kit/Kitty, nn for Kirsten.
