Ok so I'm 37 wks pregnant now and we don't know what sex DC is. The whole way through this pregnancy I have loved the name Gabriel for a boy. I've always been a bit concerned about whether this name would caused my child to be teased and I am aware that it is not everyones cup of tea, but I've loved it.

DH now says he also loves it and wants to use it as the first name for our potential DS. But now I can't imagine having a son called Gabriel and it just doesn't sound right. For pete's sake what is wrong with me.
Please reassure me that this is just a wobble and that being called Gabriel is great, especially if you know any Gabriels, young or old :)

Beautiful name. I know a Gabriel (Gabe) he was named in a post birth haze and his Dad panicked about it for a while (days not weeks) he grew into his name and I cannot imagine him being called anything else now. He loves his own name too.

You are having last minute name jitters. 24 hours before DD2's birth I was combing through lists of names trying to see if there was something I liked better than the name that had been our #1 contender for months. And Gabriel is a lovely name, not at all weird these days, and all the Gabriels I have known have been lovely.

My Gabriel is 10 months old and his nn is Gabe. Everyone comments on what a lovely name it is.

Thanks everyone that's fab reassurance I think we will go with it as we have discussed and discussed soooo many other names and combinations. I just hope I don't get the wobbles with our girls name as have been certain of this since before I was pregnant :)

I loved this name but my friend teaches in our local secondary school and persuaded me the teasing would be definite! Depends where you live I think. It's a really lovely name but it is the child who has to live with it.

I like Gabriel. I used to work with one and we called him Gabes.

DD name will be Cleo Lucy (Lucy optional, Cleo not). Already have a Lyra Emily and thought they went really well together :)

LOVE it! Go for it, I think it's probably just hormones! I'm overdue now and am going loopy over our name choices and I'm blaming the horones!

bunsandroses · 14/10/2011 20:42

I have a Gabriel, mainly called Gabes and I still love it and he has not been teased (only 2.5!). I feel it is a lovely, quite traditional but lovely name and goes with lots of middle names.
In the hospital he did get called Gabrielle quite a lot, but on the whole I'd say go for it, you won't regret it!

Two. Words.

Gabriel Byrne.

And he's dreamy.

tryingtoleave · 15/10/2011 13:10

I would have used it, if we hadn't known a few (now all a long way away - sigh)

tryingtoleave · 15/10/2011 13:14

And I love the Cole porter song:

Well, I was low Gabriel, low
Mighty low, Gabriel, low
But now that I've seen the light
I'm good by day and and I'm good by night
So, blow, Gabriel, blow

If I had a Gabriel, I could sing it to him.

Sigh, again.
