Name Riddle

My friends just told me about their friends name clues, and I'm stumped. I can't think of one possibility. Here are the clues: Norman/French name, 6 letters, no shortening as it would just be a vowel sound, not overly popular. Don't know if it's a boy or girl, but my friend thinks boy from a few hints they gave.

Any ideas?

Oh, arse. Though the name Riddle was the surname due to capitalisation.

He's arrived and it's Travis. I would never have guessed that but I've looked it up and it is indeed French.
