We have an Angus... and a Romilly!!

So I go for Alys Romilly :)

You have good taste! What are their middle names? I think you told me Angus's in my other thread. I love both names. Trying to convince DH. I am just a name obsessive though, not ttc again just yet.

Thanks Maisie, I'm sure you're right about Alice/Alys, but it is a family name, and DH thinks Alys has a but more zest to it!

We have:

Romilly Catherine Ruby (mns are family names)
Nancy Madeleine Pearl (no particular logic - I wanted Nancy Fondant Fancy, had to settle with Madeleine as another 'cake' name - I'm not really as bonkers as that sounds, honest!)
Joseph Hamish (then my maiden name as a mn)

finally

Angus Edward Patrick (mns are family names again)

Other names I like are:

I find boys names quite tricky - or rather, finding names that we both agreed on was very tricky.

Tabitha is too feline, Alys just looks like trying to find yoooneek spellings (even if it is a family name, it's what people would assume) and I'm not very keen on Romilly. But Alys Romilly is nicer than Tabitha. No offence intended, just my first reactions.

Angus is my absolute fave for a boy at the moment. I actually really like Angus Joseph..

Of course, there is the Welsh connection with Romilly (have a look at Augustus John the painter).

Alys as first name, Romilly or Tabitha as middle name

Like both Tabitha and Romilly though Tabitha is a bit feline as another poster said. Just ran into a baby Romilly actually and Tabitha seems to be increasingly popular. Not that keen on Alys myself. Definitely go with the more unusual one as a first name though -- they can always use the middle name later on if they don't like it but I think (as someone with a very, very unusual name) it's nice to have a name with a little character.

Is there any reason you'd spell it Alys? Seems a bit odd.

Alice is far nicer than the Welsh spelling of Alys, which looks as if it's trying too hard to be different!

Tabs is slang for ears.

Alys IS spelt properly, it's the welsh spelling. It is neither odd nor silly actually. At least it's phonetically correct (in welsh) unlike Alice.

Romilly is great. Alys sounds like a made up welsh-inspired name created in America and the spelling makes me want to put the pronounciation on the second syllable thus A-Liss which is a bit odd. sorry!

Tabitha was my choice for DD1 but as my dad and brother have a lisp I thought it would be a lifetime of trouble with the 'th'. Settled on Matilda instead.

Other nice girls names: Esme, Pearl! Old fashioned but nice.
