What do you think?

Interesting, although I can't help but hear it in my head in my (beloved) aunty's broad Essex accent - Caaaaarmewl!! I think its quite a regional-accent-dependant name, which will change the emphasis on the syllables.

Carmen?

whenstrangethingshappen · 20/09/2011 00:06

Carmen is a bit too spanishy to go with a DD who is Máirín.

Hummm - didn't think of that, can only hear it in a proud Donegal accent, but suppose that isn't common in UK

Broad rather not proud.

Lovely, and fits in beautifully with Máirín.

Some accents can mangle anything. If you like the sound of it when you say it then go with it.

Meteorite · 20/09/2011 08:01

It sounds nice in a Donegal accent :) A little too much like camel in some accents though.

greenzebra · 20/09/2011 08:28

I like it sounds nice said as the place Car-mel and as I have heard recently Car-mol

go for it.

poormesomemore · 20/09/2011 09:30

I like it - kind of unusual but not.
And goes with Máirín

birdofthenorth · 20/09/2011 11:16

Beautiful name

sparkle12mar08 · 20/09/2011 11:17

I don't like it at all, sorry. Much to close to caramel for my liking.

GooseyLoosey · 20/09/2011 11:21

Not for me. I looked at the thread title and assumed it was going to be about holiday recommendations in California.

ellesabe · 20/09/2011 18:48

I like it. Reminds me of caramel :)

takemebacktosmallville · 20/09/2011 18:52

Well I think it is an amazing name I had a wonderful Great Aunt Carmel who ran a sweet shop.
Great name :D

Batteryhuman · 20/09/2011 19:13

Very Catholic and in my Catholic convent school very Irish

Psammead · 20/09/2011 19:58

I knew a Carmel and she was really lovely. I like it!

hulabula · 20/09/2011 21:54

Lovely, underused name.

pinkthechaffinch · 21/09/2011 21:14

I have a Catholic auntie called Carmel too. I've always thought it's a nice soft name.

PuppyMonkey · 21/09/2011 21:16

I have an Irish catholic cousin called Carmel too.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/09/2011 21:20

The only Carmel I know is a Dub :) I can't help thinking of Fr Ted though...
