Eli and Ellie?

Ok, I'm 33 weeks and really struggling with names. DH and I have quite different tastes, but we both really like Eli. Trouble is, my name is Ellie, and DH is really worried about this. He thinks people will think we're weird. We want to keep the name secret, so can't ask family and friends. What's the general consensus?

If you get called El (elle) then yeas it is wierd as I know 3 Eli's who are Els. (they are all Elijahs not just Eli))
Put apart from that No I think you could be fine with it. After all mothers and daughters and fathers and sons have the same names. and that is relatively common

I think it would be a bit weird to be honest. I have the same problem (I love the name Clarence, but my name is the similar girls version) and have decided that it would just be too weird for us.
Eli and Ellie are very similar.

I think if you really love the name Eli then you should use it. Lots of people give their child the same name as themselves!

when i read the title i thought you meant for siblings, and i thought htat might be a bit much... but i wouldn't think it was odd particularly if i met an Ellie with a baby Eli

I don't think it's odd. Love the name Eli. I can't use it as my surname rhymes with it!
I have a friend called Ellie and if she named her DS Eli I wouldn't have thought it weird.

I think it's a bit too similar, wouldn't use it personally.

If you really love it though, don't worry about what other people will think, it's not really their business. And once he's a bit older, most people who meet him won't know his mother's name, so it won't be an issue anyway.

We're thinking of Elijah as a full version, but would only ever have Eli as a nn (never El). Boys names are just so hard!

When I read the title I assumed it meant as siblings and was going to say definately too similar. As Mum and Son its not so bad but still could be seen as odd by some people. I think as his name will be Elijah and your name I'm guessing is something longer eg Eleanor, your 'proper' names are actually not that similar. For all you know he may never be called Eli or El and you may become your longer name as you get older (I have heard of it happening). If you really like Elijah I think you should go for it.

I don't think it's weird at all. If you had siblings Ellie and Eli THAT would be odd, but I rarely give a thought to parents' names and how they match up with the kids'.

I like Elijah but nothing wrong with just Eli, you're his mother but he is his own person. So it doesn't really matter what your name is.
