Hello, would love peoples opinions on the following names for our daughter due in 3 weeks!

Agnes
Edie (Edith)
Iris
Myrtle

Our surname begins with an A and is 2 syllables. We already have a son called Archie. Thanks

I know a little Edie and she is gorgeous. I think its the nicest of the bunch followed by Agnes.

Love Edie. Not Myrtle.

EdithWeston · 18/09/2011 22:12

Edith.

Agnes is lovely, but there might be too many "a"s (depends on actual cadence). Not keen on Iris, sorry, and Myrtle just says "moaning".

tummytickler · 18/09/2011 22:51

I think Myrtle or Edith fits best with Archie when you say them together. Although they wont be together forever, so don't know if this is an issue for you!
Archie and Edith/Edie is great
Will you let us know which you choose?

lchodge · 18/09/2011 22:54

I like Edie but not Edith. I'm not a fan of any of the rest of the names. They scream old lady to me and just can't imagine them on a little baby/girl.

charlatan · 19/09/2011 08:39

Thanks everyone. Think I've gone off Iris a bit overnight!! Still really like the others though.
I prefer Edie to Edith but husband isn't sure whether people will think it's Eddie (as in short for Edward!) He thinks if we went for that we should name her Edith but call her Edie! I don't see the point in that really as Archie is an Archie on his birth certificate not Archibald!

I love Iris, Edith is nice. Agnes and Myrtle - not so keen.

LetThereBeRock · 19/09/2011 13:27

Agnes is hideous.
Edith is lovely.
I don't like Iris.
Myrtle is awful.

Ebb · 19/09/2011 13:38

Edie is lovely. I don't like Myrtle or Iris. I can't decide whether I like Agnes or not. I think I do. Grin

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 19/09/2011 14:20

Iris and Edith, Myrtle is a turtle and Agnes is catarrh sounding.

charlatan · 19/09/2011 14:55

That is my one reservation about Myrtle! It rhymes with turtle! I like turtles but you know how cruel kids can be!

Agnes is gorgeous. I like your DH's idea of Edith on the BC and Edie as a nn.

Myrtle and Iris -- meh.

allieballiebee · 19/09/2011 15:51

Edie is gorgeous and I think it goes really well with Archie

seeker · 19/09/2011 15:52

Edith.

Absolutely love Iris and Edith (Edie). Agnes is ok; really don't like Myrtle.

minipie · 19/09/2011 18:22

Like Edie, dislike Edith.
Like Iris
Dislike Agnes
Dislike Myrtle

pilates · 19/09/2011 20:01

Not keen on any of them

susiedaisy · 19/09/2011 20:07

Think they are all dreadful tbh sorry,

Duhart · 19/09/2011 20:29

Like Edie, Iris and then Agnes. Myrtle just isn't an attractive sound and rhymes with furtle which would put anyone off!

Dexifehatz · 21/09/2011 11:46

I like Agatha too.

1234BOYS · 21/09/2011 12:00

My friend has just had an Edith - but always known as Edie - I very much like it.

telsa · 21/09/2011 12:30

Edie or Edith - very lovely and goes nicely with Archie. Agnes is really sweet - very soft sounding, like Edith. Mrytle is cute. Iris sounds to me much harsher than the other names and I really can't get beyond the eye association and the IRIS Passport recognition system.

YouDoTheMath · 21/09/2011 13:47

Love Edie. Then maybe Iris.
