Dylan/Miles/Phoebe/Layla?

HELP!

Our first baby is due next week, we've managed to draw up a short list but would like some opinions.

Sex is a surprise.

Middle name will be Carey for a boy or girl - to follow a family tradition.

Dylan Carey
Miles Carey
Phoebe Carey
Layla Carey

Our surname rhymes with toffee. (why didn't I keep my own name?!?!?!?)

Thanks!

I think Layla is awful. So there. Can you imagine a 30 year old woman with an important job being called Layla...really?

I also think Miles should be spelt Myles.

harassedandherbug · 13/09/2011 12:59

I don't like Layla either, for the reasons above.

I love Miles, with an "i". That's my favourite.

Carey is a lovely name.

tammytoby · 13/09/2011 13:24

I only really dislike Miles - the plural of Mile. It is like naming a child Kilometres Grin. I guess it depends if you're in the UK (where miles are used) or in another country (which uses Kilometres).

I'm not massively keen on Dylan. I do love Layla - very pretty, feminine and works in most languages (unlike Phoebe).

Meteorite · 13/09/2011 13:30

I like Dylan, Miles and Phoebe, but not Layla.

Miles strikes me as serious, Dylan more arty.

Phoebe Carey - the two "ee" endings are not ideal together.

mayanna123 · 13/09/2011 13:34

I like Dylan and Layla.

Agree that Miles is too 'metric' and Phoebe is difficult to pronounce for non-English (or even English speakers Smile).

LaBag · 13/09/2011 13:37

Stuck at how Phoebe is difficult pronounce Confused

mayanna123 · 13/09/2011 13:40

Because the 'o' is silent, but without knowing that you'd say Pho-be.

Quenelle · 13/09/2011 13:49

Miles is too metric Grin

I think one syllable sounds better in front of Carey eg John Carey ..., Ann Carey ...

jaggythistle · 14/09/2011 18:37

Miles or Phoebe.

I know a Miles and no one ever mentions distance or Kilometers in any way, it's just his name. Grin

I like Miles with an I not a y too.

poppydaisy · 14/09/2011 18:52

I guess you get used to any name, but when first reading/hearing 'Miles' I too tend to think of distance. But there are worse associations that that, I guess Smile.

I like Layla - very pretty.

AlpinePony · 15/09/2011 09:19

I love all of them except Phoebe.

Although I'm not sure how easy it would be to pull off Dylan outside of Wales.

Layla - good Persian name isn't it?

Miles - think Colby! Grin

mopsyflopsy · 15/09/2011 09:51

I like Layla very much. Pretty, feminine and not that widely used. I don't like the look/pronunciation of Phoebe, sorry.

Not keen on either boys' names but agree that Miles does look like the plural of mile, but perhaps one loses that association when one meets a real life Miles.

lchodge · 19/09/2011 12:30

Dylan and Layla.
Re LaBag, I recently came into contact with a 40-something year old lawyer called Tallulah.....a name does not define career choice and it's ridiculous to think it would!

melliebobs · 19/09/2011 12:32

love Layla. and that is our girls name if we have a girl. However we are spelling it Laila

Ebb · 19/09/2011 12:37

I like Dylan and Layla. I think Phoebe Carey Toffee doesn't really flow.
