..and I mean anything (no matter how ridiculous, if there are bad connections, what others think or whether it sounds good with surname) what would it be?

I love the names Constantine and River for boys and Sonnet and Indigo but they are a bit 'out there' and would not work in RL!

So what would yours be? :o

upatdawn because we're in Germany and it would be pronounced 'Heat'.

rachel234 · 07/09/2011 20:41

"I like out there names but didn't give them to my children because it's them that has to live with them, it's them that has to spell them, it's them that has to be the one who feels a bit different. "

But your children may hate even more having a very common name. And 'out there' does not necessarily mean difficult to spell Smile.

Also like Isla for a girl.

littlewater · 07/09/2011 20:54

Azula for a girl and Jet for a boy.
Lw

BoringSchoolChoiceNickname · 07/09/2011 21:00

Hepzibah and Athelstane

Or possibly Arwen and Eowyn if they were both girls

All ruled out for obvious reasons.

MissWilde · 11/09/2011 18:45

Ernest, but our surname is Wilde and it would be a bit odd to name our son a name that appears in an Oscar Wilde play Confused

Bathsheba · 11/09/2011 20:52

Christian for a boy....or Diggory. Or Dickon

I probably got my 2 favourite names for Dd1 and Dd3....if dd2 had been my choice instead of Dh's she would have been Jemima

Thusnelda · 11/09/2011 20:56

Nepomuk or Ödön

2to3 · 11/09/2011 21:01

Allegra and Maximillian.

reallacecurtains · 11/09/2011 21:20

Pearl
Lilac
Amethyst or
Primrose

PootlePosyPerkin · 11/09/2011 21:35

Theas18 - were you looking at gravestones in the Devon/Cornwall area at all? That's the only place I've ever seen or heard of the name Thirza (and always on gravestones Blush).

PootlePosyPerkin · 11/09/2011 21:42

If I'd had the nerve (and a willing DH), I might have chosen names like:

Levi
Kit
Asa
Isaac (not odd, DH just doesn't like it)
Jackson (I did have a Jack though)

Rainbow
August
Sunny
Tigerlily
Sapphire (too stripper-ish sadly)
Posy (not odd, just too close to DD's name).

WaftyCrank · 12/09/2011 22:18

Aurelia or Ariel. I still wish I'd called DD Harriet too.

Gabriel was my much wanted name with DS1. ExH hated it and laughed at me. DP loved it. Gabriel is 6 months old :)

pchick · 12/09/2011 22:20

I love Diggory!

A1980 · 13/09/2011 23:40

Anything is a crap name for a child.

I wouldn't name my child "Anything" Grin

cory · 14/09/2011 09:44

I liked Stig for a boy - Swedish, pronounced with a long -ee- sound, means 'path' but is a traditional name, not hippyish. But of course you can't with Stig of the Dump; people would be forever passing comments on the state of our front garden.

I did try for Erland- but dh put his foot down.

(he did let me get away with another traditional Swedish name though)

For a girl I would have liked Ylva. Swedish for female wolf, but without any of the bitchy connotations iyswim.

Ruth1234 · 14/09/2011 12:47

I would love Neil, Ned, Nora or Nancy but our surname begins with 'N' so I guess they are all ruled out, grrrr.

And someone told me that a Ned is a Scottish chav??

Moominsarescary · 15/09/2011 02:40

Calab but dp says no more c names

BeeBopBunny · 04/10/2011 09:08

Anastasia for a girl, nn Annie. DH wasn't impressed by that suggestion!
Ambrose for a boy. DH made the custard connection , so that was that!

AKMD · 04/10/2011 10:08

A DS: Edward (too vampirish), St John (too posh), Marmaduke (too ridiculous).

A DD: Lauren (name of girl at school who everyone would think of), Aurora (too Disney).

mrsmummy84 · 04/10/2011 12:56

I desperately want Archie for a boy and have dozens of girls names, but DH vetos Archie :(

oohlaalaa · 04/10/2011 13:33

I like Christian for a boy (DH hates it). I love Emilia or Clarissa for a girl. DH thinks these are poncey names.

iskra · 04/10/2011 15:06

I love Cleo and Clem, but they don't go with the surname.

MabliD · 06/10/2011 00:05

Alice

Estranged SIL got there first :(

Rupert
Rory
Margaret
Lydia

DH says no chance :(

puffylovett · 06/10/2011 09:32

Sebastian or Teddy....
