I've absolutely fallen in love with Wren for a girl. Hubby doesn't like it and when I say it to people they either love it or snigger and say 'noooooo'. Opinions please! (I have just under 6 months to talk hubby round so I reckon I can do it!!)

I love it. I know one too, there are more around than I'd have thought!

A wren might be shy/skulking (as described by previous poster)but it has a very loud and very beautiful song!

Alauda (latin for lark) or just lark?

It was close to the top of the list for DP and I if DS had been a girl. We decided that we'd prefer to use it as a middle name though and something more 'normal' that she wouldn't have to keep spelling as a first name.

It looks lovely written down, but once I say it out loud I think Stimpy too, sorry.

Heard it at work today for the very first time, and thought ''lovely''.

I love it but then I am biased as it's my daughters name., different spelling though. In the country I live in it can mean both love and lotus flower depending on the spelling used. Queen in French, Reine, it also means radish in Serbian I didn't find that out until she was 2!

Ultimately only you can decide what to call your child but Wren is a little, well, rather a lot, 'out there'. You have got to have DP on side. Me and DP agreed we could veto any names the other didn't like, no matter how loved they were.

I thought it was Rem and Stimpy??

I had to come back here and post ? I just remembered a friends sister called her daughter Elodie Wren. Very pretty name.

I think it's nice, and quirky but without being too cutesy. Wrens are very delicate looking and pretty (and have those perky little tails!) - but they also have very loud voices!!!!

LOVE Wren too, short, unusual and has a real charm!!

To all the ladies disagreeing with me trying to persuade Hubby... I'm not a dragon or anything... And he's not hen pecked! He's just one of those people that you need to plant the seed and watch it grow... For example, the colour scheme for our wedding was pastel pink which he agreed and liked... I suggested he wear a waistcoat to match. He said absolutely not. After leaving a few catalogues lying around and making a few hints... a year later (3 weeks before the big day) he 'suggested' that it might be nice for him to wear a matching waistcoat!!!!

Also he hated the boys name Jude, now, again after a few gentle remarks its top of his list and he loves it more than I do!

I guess you could say he's just not very open minded...

So please rest assured, hubby will not be bullied into naming our daughter (if we are team pink) Wren!

I think it's really lovely.

Gosh, Wren is my surname. Ok as surnames go but I hardly a good choice for a first name IMO. I have never met a 'wren' as a christian name, there are a few of us with wren as a surname and often people assume it is spelt Renn or Ren!

Nothing wrong with being shy and skulking. But if you're looking for something more "out there" you could go with Parrot :o
