sounds like a steamship

When I was expecting DC1 , who actually turned out to be a boy, I quite like Lydia for a potential DD, but was eventually put off by it rhyming with Chlamidia and the potential for teasing when she was older.

I'm not a fan of Lydia, but you don't hear it lot so it does have that going for it.
And Belle just makes me sing the song : There must be more than this provincial life.Look there she goes a girl who's strange but special. Bella and all names like that are going to get more popular I think. But it would make a change from Bella's.

But together - sorry not feeling it

LemonDifficult · 24/08/2011 15:39

Sounds like the punchline to a Knock Knock joke.

muminthemiddle · 24/08/2011 16:21

I love Lydia and if you like Belle then why not x.

deemented · 24/08/2011 16:22

It's ok... but at first glance i thought it was Lynda Bellingham...

Cereal · 24/08/2011 19:51

I like both names.

The combination is a bit like Liberty Belle though.

PrincessScrumpy · 24/08/2011 20:33

I love Lydia and have one - she's 3.5 and we always get lovely comments re her name. We've lumbered her with my name as her mn so it doesn't flow brilliantly but how ofter are middle names actually used? I like Belle but not sure if flows brilliantly (depends how much that matters to you). Perhaps you could add an extra mn before Belle to help it flow.

Thanks for the views everyone. Lydia is set it's the middle name that's up on the air. Other options as middle names are - in my opinion - very commonly used these days:

Lydia Rose
Lydia May
Lydia Kate

Lydia Frances?
Lydia Hope?

kelly2000 · 24/08/2011 21:07

Lovely name

HengshanRoad · 25/08/2011 07:52

"Lidia" means bullfight in Spanish. And Belle is saccharinely awful.

Thank you Kelly Smile

I don't think Belle goes as well as your other options.

wahwahwah · 25/08/2011 10:27

It sounds like the name of a ship or plane...

Much as I love the name Lydia, I keep thinking of kermit the Frog singing 'Lydia the tattoo-ed lad' on the Muppets.

muminthemiddle · 25/08/2011 10:35

Wahwahwah my fil put us off using Lydia because of that reason but you are the only other person who seems to know the song.
I wish we hadn't listened to him.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/08/2011 10:39

I'm debating Lydia at the moment an it's looking quite likely. If so it'll be Lydia Verity Violet.

wahwahwah · 25/08/2011 10:40

My life was wrapped around the circus.
Her name was Lydia.
I met her at the world's fair in 1900,
marked down from 1940.

Ah, Lydia.
She was the most glorious creature
Under the su-un.
Guiess. DuBarry. Garbo.
Rolled into one.

Oooooooh
Lydia oh Lydia, say have you met Lydia,
Lydia, the Tattooed Lady.
She has eyes that folks adore so,
And a torso even more so.

Lydia oh Lydia, that encyclopidia,
Oh Lydia the Queen of Tattoo.
On her back is the Battle of Waterloo.
Beside it the wreck of the Hesperus, too.
And proudly above waves the Red, White, and Blue,
You can learn a lot from Lydia.

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

When her robe is unfurled, she will show you the world,
If you step up and tell her where.
For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paris,
Or Washington crossing the Delaware.

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

Oh Lydia oh Lydia, say have you met Lydia,
Oh Lydia the Tattooed Lady
When her muscles start relaxin',
Up the hill comes Andrew Jackson

Lydia oh Lydia, that encyclopidia,
oh Lydia the queen of them all!
For two bits she will do a mazurka in jazz,
With a view of Niagara that nobody has.
And on a clear day you can see Alcatraz.
You can learn a lot from Lydia.

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

Come along and see Buff'lo Bill with his lasso.
Just a little classic by Mendel Picasso.
Here is Captain Spaulding exploring the Amazon.
Here's Godiva but with her pajamas on.

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

Here is Grover Whalen unveilin' the Trilon.
Over on the West Coast we have Treaure Island.
Here's Najinsky a-doin' the rhumba.
Here's her social security numba.

{whistles}La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

Oh Lydia, oh Lydia that encyclopidia,
Oh Lydia the champ of them all.
She once swept an Admiral clear off his feet.
The ships on her hips made his heart skip a beat.
And now the old boy's in command of the fleet,
For he went and married Lydia.

I said Lydia
{He said Lydia}
They said Lydia
{We said Lydia}
La La!
