Its lovely. My grandpa's name, he was an Alf or Alfie. But Freddy is too adorable :)

Sophiesmummie · 14/08/2011 21:14

I'm not keen and hate Alfie, sorry. I do like Frederick though.

LetThereBeRock · 14/08/2011 21:22

I really don't like it. I particuarly loathe the overused and 'cutesy' Alfie. I'm not fond of Freddie either but it's a slight improvement.

naturalbaby · 14/08/2011 21:32

I'm liking Alfred but there are a lot of Alfie's about.

scottishmummy · 14/08/2011 21:34

like it,but v popular
not so keen on alfie

MelinaM · 14/08/2011 21:37

Like it, but abhor the nn Alfie, it's uber trendy at the moment!

usualsuspect · 14/08/2011 21:38

I'm not keen

tammytoby · 14/08/2011 21:38

Really dislike Alfie, sorry. Alfred is ok.

WonkyDonkeys · 14/08/2011 21:38

Interesting...he's already Alfie but thinking of changing to Alfred.

Had no idea it was so popular, hearing the name everywhere now....hence the change.

not keen on the diminutives of names
too cutsey wutsey and bit contrived

scottishmummy · 14/08/2011 21:41

do like Alfred,like Frederick

MirandaGoshawk · 14/08/2011 21:42

Like Alfred, it's different. Can't imagine what kind of boy it would suit, he would make it his own!

Not keen on Alfie though, too many around, and what scottishmummy said.

Milliways · 14/08/2011 21:52

I like Alfie - it's my cat's name! (Kids named them Alfie & Annie after the books).

perplexedpirate · 14/08/2011 21:52

Alfred/Freddie is lovely. Don't like Alfie, and it's everywhere at the minute. For some reason it reminds me of a used car salesman. ???

mayanna123 · 14/08/2011 21:58

Will Alfred not inevitably get shortened to Alf or Alfie by his friends?

mayanna123 · 14/08/2011 21:58

I think Alfie will date quite badly as it has become very trendy in a short time and I think people will soon tire of it.

WonkyDonkeys · 14/08/2011 22:02

Ahem - did anyone see he's already called Alfie "used car salesman" Sad

Will we need to change by deed poll? He's 3mo

good grief dont act upon what strangers online opine
you likes it enough to pick it,so whats changed?

WonkyDonkeys · 14/08/2011 22:08

It was never on the shortlist - decided on the day.

Dh never that keen - he wanted Freddie.

How popular it appears to be (never heard it before, now everywhere)

scottishmummy · 14/08/2011 22:11

look dont change based on mn thread
names are personal and what is smashing to one person rates on another
alfie is a vv popular name, but its regular not like a made up badly spelt fame name

InstantAtom · 14/08/2011 22:19

I like Alfred and Freddie. Like Frederick/Freddie more. Alfie rather faddy.

radio4junkie · 14/08/2011 22:24

I vote for Alfred, as you Alfie sounds much better on a toddler/child than Fred! And you could then shorten it to Fred when he's a teenager, so best of both worlds! Wink

LetThereBeRock · 14/08/2011 22:41

Why are you asking if you've already named him? If you like Alfie then stick with it.

WonkyDonkeys · 15/08/2011 08:26

Not sure if we do like it LetThere - at least with Alfred there's more options

Is it easy to change?
