Pronounced Vey-da not Vah-da

As in My Girl.

Bit too Darth, or do you like?

I would assume you were a big My Girl fan tbh. But when you say it I would htink most people would immediately preface it with Darth in their head.

EdithWeston · 14/08/2011 14:49

Definitely Darth, I'm afraid, especially with that pronunciation.

SaffronCake · 14/08/2011 14:54

People are going to think Vah-Dah and when you correct them they will think Darth.

What about Vala? (Vah-lah). Was on my list ontil DSS2 (age 21) said it put him in mind of the home planet of a Superman baddie or something. I had to conceed he had a point... But it's still less glaringly obvious than the draw back with Vada.

Olivesandfeta · 14/08/2011 14:57

Sultenfuss :)

I quite like it, it's pretty.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 14/08/2011 14:59

My neighbours dog is called Vadar. I dont like it tbh.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 14/08/2011 14:59

Vada

thenightsky · 14/08/2011 15:01

Lord Vader

Nope.

cookielove · 14/08/2011 15:04

I personally thought of My girl, no darth in my mind. Erm i don't really like it, but each to their own Smile

SaffronCake · 14/08/2011 15:11

Or there's Vega (Vey-gah)

GeeinItLaldy · 14/08/2011 15:31

Far too Star Wars, I'm afraid. Darth was the first thing that came to mind for me.

birdofthenorth · 14/08/2011 17:07

Darth, sorry.

LOVE Vita though!

TheMonster · 14/08/2011 17:08

Very dark side. I love it!

Rhubarbgarden · 14/08/2011 17:57

Darth.

Bearcrumble · 14/08/2011 18:01

It makes me think of Polari slang.

Bandwithering · 14/08/2011 18:15

My friend's niece is called this but her dad is hungarian (I think it's hungarian. Or was it bulgarian)

I like it.

Darth is darth Vader isn't it? not darth Vada. So different.

ShoutyHamster · 14/08/2011 19:07

It's a bit evil...

Bunbaker · 14/08/2011 19:11

Like SaffronCake I thought it was pronounced Vah-da. Have never heard of My Girl. If you are prepared to spend a lifetime correcting other people's pronunciation then go for it. I neither like nor dislike it.

On the other hand how about Vanya?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 14/08/2011 19:17

No.

MmeBucket · 14/08/2011 19:18

I read the thread title, and immediately started humming Darth Vader's theme music out loud.

Cattleprod · 14/08/2011 19:25

It makes me think of a boy at my school called Anil Vada. Poor boy spent many years being known as Anal Invader!

LifeOfKate · 14/08/2011 19:41

I thought it was spelt Veda? As in the hindu gods? Anyway, I like it, it does make me think of My Girl, but not in a bad way :)

scarlettsmummy2 · 14/08/2011 19:43

I'm Irish and it immediately made me think of Veda bread, which is a very popular brown loaf.

RageAndLove · 14/08/2011 20:06

Instantly thought Darth when I saw thread, sorry

coccyx · 14/08/2011 20:08

surely not??? sounds like a cleaning product

Bunbaker · 14/08/2011 20:22

I was racking my brains as to where I have heard the term vada before. I have just remembered that it is a traditional south Indian savoury snack.
